Got my surgery Date - December bandster

Recommended Posts

My doc is also married with kids but dang he's cute!

Thanks for the encouragment, I need it and it works. My dd left a half eaten candy bar laying on the counter and I almost picked it up, I felt that hesitating in my step as I walked by but - I said no... no cheating today.

Does anyone know how long the surgery is? I've been told like 3 different answers. I went to my patient education group last night and am now miserable. The woman had the vertical band, and seemed limited on her knowledge of the lapband. Needless to say, she freaked my mom out all over again. It was swell.

Hi December bandys I am also being banded in Dec. :clap2: Actually I am being banded on Dec.22 same as Beversman By Dr. Curry I will see you there girl. I was excited to see someone else on here having the same date as me but I got even more luck I got someone going to the same Dr. as me I am really excited. I have the same situation as most of you I haven't told anyone but my husband ,son & my best friend and they all are very supportive . I want to tell my mom & dad I just am not sure how they will react:cry but after reading a few of the post I think I might see if my mom would like to meet for lunch this weekend and I think I will tell her. I am just so excited about it and I don't want to be torn down about my decision, my mother is very opinionated and sticks with her thoughts I just wish she would trust me this time .... maybe she will I can only hope. I will keep you all updated on my decision to tell my parents.

I need to figure out how to do a ticker can anyone guide me through it?

WOW!! How awesome! My name is Brandi by the way. We are really going to be doing things at the same time... lol -- what time do you have to be there? My surgery is at 7:30am -- i have to be there at 5:30am to get started signing in.

I'm so excited now! I have my nutrition class on the 5th (they had to reschedule cause Erin is out of town on the 4th), and I have my bloodwork done on the 14th at 1:30pm. Then the 22nd is Band-Day.

We will have to really keep after eachother for the pre-op diet. I am not looking forward to that with all the Christmas goodies all around, but that is half the reason I went ahead and scheduled it now. Might as well avoid the holiday treats, and what better reason could I get?

So, where are you from? I live over in SE Indiana. I'm about 45 min from the hospital. Good luck telling your family... mine had finally conceded defeat and realized that I am getting the surgery. They don't like it, but for the last week they have finally stopped trying to talk me out of it, and stopped giving me the major guilt trips.

Feel free to email me or send me a PM! Nice to meet you!

Wow, some days I am excited about the surgery, and then the next day I get scared for some reason or other. The newest drama in my saga is that I am obsessing over my surgeon having only performed less than 10 lapband procedures (but over 700 lap bypass surgeries). The doctor from their organization who used to perform the band surgery died this summer in a plane crash, so he has taken over. Words of support please? =(

angyl -

can you talk to any of his previous patients to see how they're doing? How long has he performed the procedure? I'm sure that he is a competent surgeon. Tell him how you feel and let HIM soothe your concerns. And stay prayerful. *HUG*

Thank you for your support. Another question, has anyone done background checks on their doctor, like license certification, complaints, malpractice suits, or anything else? Luckily enough, I haven't found anything bad on my doctor, but I am still looking.

I DID IT!!!! I paid my deposit, so there is no going back now. I think I was procrastinating a little, for some reason. Even if this is what I want and I am 100% sure of it. I will arrive to Mexico, Dec. 17th which is a Sunday to the Hotel Lucerna. Then my pre op and surgery will both be on Dec. 18th on Monday. Then I leave on Tuesday. I wake up in the morning so excited, waiting for this exciting new chapter to begin. I know it won't be easy. I know that I have a new way to eat and live. But, I want to be healthy, more than I want to eat large quantities of food.

I want to be a good role model to my daughters, so they don't have to face the pain of being overweight all there lives like me, and suffer the ridicule of well meaning family members. People have always made comments about what I am eating and then if I am on a diet, throwing it in my fame "What diet are you on now????" Telling me I will never lose weight. My grandmother used to tell me she was ashamed to walk down the street with me, and even if I felt I didn't care what anyone said, I am sure that being told that hurt me somehow.

I used to be thin as a child. Then at 12 years old, my step dad started teasing me. I guess that was when I started to develop. I was not overweight, but he'd tease me and tell me I was getting fat. That is whe I started this vicious cycle of yo yo dieting, from age 12 to 33, 21 years. My mom wanted to have me commited at one point to a place that delt with overweight teens. She took me to OA, Weight Wathcers, Nutra System, Lindora, etc. What is sad, is each attempt made things worse. Her obsession with my weight made it worse.

I think it is important to know why we are overweight, so we can know how to fight in the correct way. I don't eat for emotional reasons anymore. I used to do it to spite my family, the more they bothered me, the more I'd eat. They wanted to control me and what I ate, how much I weighed. The woman in my family are very vain and into appearance. So, to show them they didn't have control over me, I'd eat more and gain weight. I think that also had a lot to do with me not wanting to wear makeup for so long and want to dress frumpy, because they'd be on me to wear makeup from the moment I woke up.

I know they meant well, they did the best they could, thinking they were helping me. Negative reinforcement just doesn't work! Put downs and those little comments.

Now I just eat because I love food! I love large quantities and I love to feel full! I stick to the eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full, but my stomach has a big capacity.

I have a question. My friend who had the lapband surgery a year ago said she was told she could never do abdominal cruchnes? Does anyone work out there abs and how?

Thanks for being there for me. I really appreciate this site and all of the people in it.

God Bless, Audree <><

Yes, Erin is a sweetie -- and such an inspiration! It is awesome having a dietician who HAS the band. You will probably see me at some point that day -- you will be coming in when I am going into surgery, but we should be in the same recovery area -- when i get up moving around I will start looking for people names kelli :-) lol, that could take awhile... I figure they would put us in the same location though.

Well, what a happy coincedence. I will definitely let you know about tomorrow. I've been so nervous about it all the last couple of days. i think my families anxiety is wearing off on me. They are thinking of every reason for me NOT to do it... I'm excited, but got a little scared thinking about it this weekend.

Hope all is well with everyone! I am thinking about Ms. Carol today is her big day. (also saying a prayer for her hubby). Talk to you all soon.

Audree, I think it is great that you are thinking of your daughters. We live in such a weight obsessed society, that if they have a home that is not weight obsessed it should really help them.

I don't have daughters, but my sister does and dhe has mentioned that she thinks her low confidenceabout her appearance has had a negative effect on her daughters. Ironically, she looks fine, but the tapes in her head keep telling her she is ugly. It is really sad. I guess it is a good lesson in changing the way we think as well as the way we look.

Hope you are all doing well. It is encouraging to read about your journey.

So, you had a friend banded by Dr. C too? That must be great having someone with whom you could watch the process.

I took my nutrition class yesterday, and I have to get my meal plans made out and sent in to her sometime over the next couple of days. I hope this medifast stuff doesnt taste like crap :-) I have my doubts. ha

Hi Band Sisters!

I'm in Washington for the week, and am totally ROCKING on my pre-op diet. I have not cheated one single time. I totally feel like I rule! I brought my pre-packaged meals, and have been drinking Soup and hot chocolate during the meetings, nibbling my bars and soy nuts for Snacks. I'm pounding Water, and even declined drinks and dinner invitations. I am devoted to success. I fully expect that when I get home I will be another 3-4 pounds lighter.

I also met a nice man at the airport who is *ahem* on his way over to socialize for a while. I feel so loose in the caboose, but I'm single, and pretty, and crazysexycool. So where's the harm in it? :) Of course I've given his contact info to my girlfriend in case I end up missing (hahah, that won't happen).

Thought I'd check in and share my NSVs with you. Hope you're all doing well! I'll be home tomorrow.

Nathalie

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
