December Bandsters

Recommended Posts

All, I was banded last Friday on 12/8. So far so good. I did lose some weight before I started. My surgery was with Dr. Von Rueden at GBMC in Baltimore, MD.

A great hospital and great experience.

I had my pre-op vist today. I am sooo excited I gained 5 pounds since my last vist so i really have to get strict with my self now. All in all it went well but i made a mistake with my meds I told the doctors that i was taking claratin for my allergies but i am taking allegra, I changed and forgot about until i came home and went to take the medicine. So i will call them tomorrow i feel so stupid about that, but i guess it shows that I'm human.

Today is day two of my pre op diet. I was feeling really hungry. Yesterday I had a headache almost migrane, but didn't take anything due to not being able to take asprin two weeks prior to surgery. I feel kinda moody and feel kinda sick to my stomach.

I think I need more liquids. I did take a Green T appetite suppresant and I think it helped after I took it. My sugery is scheduled next Monday. I am nervous and excited. There is a slight chance I may need to reschedule. My loan proceeds may not come in on time, but I am praying it will!

Has anyone seen the video of the actual lapband surgery?

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3190472028990485080&q=lap+band&hl=en

Watch only if you really want to know. If you dont' really want to know, don't watch it. It kind of freaked me out the first time I watched it. It is making me stay on this pre op diet no matter how I feel. Now I know why they need your liver to shrink because they need to lift it up. I am going to watch it once a day so I can be motivated to do what I am suppposed to. I have heard that people who cheat raise the complication rate.

Hope you all have a great day! Audree :clap2:

Hi Ladies -

I had a very emotional day today. I think I cried off and on for 4 hours. My daycare provider gave me 2 wks notice this morning. I have no idea what I'm going to do with my boy. I'm working on it. On top of surgery and problems with my son's father, the daycare thing was the last straw. When she told me I stood there and cried. I feel like I just got dumped.

I ate well today, stuck to the diet. I was on the elliptical 3x yesterday (30 minutes each time) and 2x today (30 min). I'm still fat. (laugh) I don't know if they will do the surgery because I've only lost 10 pounds. We'll see.

BabyGotBack, I feel like pinching you for making me watch that video! (laugh) I don't even watch ER and I fast forward through the surgery parts of Nip/Tuck because I can't stand surgery stuff. As soon as they started scootching her organs around and fluffing up her yellow globules of glittering gunk, I had to shut it down. I got queasy.

More than anything right now I want some wine. :) When can I start drinking wine again? I might get back on the elliptical once more before the night is over. I lost 1.5 pounds yesterday (according to my Tanita scale).

Kay, thanks for the shout out.

Have we heard from StephC?

Welcome new December people!

TTYL!

Sad Nat

I had all my pre-testing done Friday afternoon was all set for banding Wednesday the 13th, but was running a low grade fever. I'm recovering from a bout with bronchitis and not completely over it evidently. My PCP put me on 2 different inhalers. Her comment when she came back in the room after checking my chest x-rays was..."Well, there's good news and bad news...the good news is, it's not pneumonia, the bad news is, if your not significantly better by Monday, you need to contact your surgeon :phanvan. Anyway, that's where I am tonight, and kinda bummed out. However, I know it's definetly for the best as far as my health, don't want to take any chances! Thankfully they were able to get me re-scheduled on the 20th of Dec. So, this Wednesday, it's back to the "pre-op" diet and the countdown.

By the way, on a scale of 1 to 10, how BAD is the pain afterwards..:) such a wimp here, I'm all for the miracles of medication....:D Have a good week all.

Smithkr1 the pain is manageable. My gas pain was the worse. I hurt in my back and left shoulder and neck but the pain meds helped and walking worked the best. The surgery site wasn't bad. On a scale of one to ten I think maybe a 5 for two days and after that I was pretty much pain free. The rewards are worth the pain I promise.

Hello everyone else hope all are doing well. I had a pretty good day today and tomorrow I go into curvers to be measured and weighed, wish me luck I don't see a big change but its only been a week so.........See you tomorrow

I am sorry you had a hard day! Maybe the pre op diet makes us more emotional because I feel like I am on an emotional rollercoaster. I am all over the place with my emotions and getting upset about things in the past and impatient, etc.

I think it is the drastic drop in calories too. I am taking liquid Vitamins and liquidn B's. I think that is helping me feel not as bad.

I know, the video is graphic! I actually felt nausous watching it. Then my husband wanted to watch it with me so I had to watch it again!!!!! I do like that I can envision what the lapband will look like inside me and that is is sewed, and protected by my liver, since the liver lays on top of it.

Hope everyone is well today! 2 days pre op diet down, 6 to go!

Now, if I can just start exercising again! Audree

Hi Nathalie. Man does that suck! You have every right to have a pity party, just remember that parties only last a few hours. I have often found that when I am trying to make positive changes, I have huge obstacles appear out of nowhere...(and some of them have a strong resemblance to the ex.)

Just remember, you WILL find another day care provider...maybe even someone that you will be happier with. You may look back and say, am I ever glad that happened otherwise I would have never met ________.

I went through hell with my boys dad for about 10 years. They know exactly which buttons to push and how to manipulate you. I finally started taking the time to do some emotional healing. I stoped having contact directly with him. If I had to speak with him I killed him with kindness but let him know that if I became uncomfortable with the conversation I would have no choice but to hang up. I figure I left him for a reason, so I certianly don't need to maintain a friendly relationship with him. I just needed to take really good care of my boys and provide access. Some wise person told me I don't have to try to be everything to everyone. I felt that took some pressure off me.

Your surgery is one really positive thing you have going for you right now. You are taking back control of your life. You deserve to do this for yourself. I am really proud of you. I can tell you are a very strong person.

And one more thing, quit making the rest of us look bad by the amount of time and effort you are putting into the elliptical trainer. Jeez, I got tired reading it!

Hang in there....this too shall pass.

Big Hug.

Baby got back...it went good. I am a little irratable tonight. If you don't believe me you could ask my husband. I watched that surgery. Wish I hadn't. Gross. It scared me a little. I don't know what I thought they were going to put into the incisions...maybe itty bitty straws.

Congrats on day one of your preop. I am eating 1 protien shake, 1 salad, 1 lean cuisine on most days. I am very excited. Have lost 11 pounds since around the beginning of the month. Goodbye fatty liver!!

TTYS.

bandiva -

that's a cruddy thing to do, making me start my Tuesday morning in tears. Your message was the pep talk and big hug that I needed. Thanks! :) I'm finding this "single mother" thing to be much, much harder and more demanding than I thought it would be. My house is a mess, my life is a whirl-a-gig, and now the one thing I thought was stable (daycare) is taken away. Thank goodness for therapy! LOL I actually have leads on a few places, and I start interviewing tomorrow. I'll find something, even if he has to spend a week or two at a daycare center until I find a nice private family daycare. The only way I have been able to keep from stuffing my emotions is to write and exercise. IMMEDIATELY after she told me, I swear to you I tasted chocolate in my mouth. I was emotionally headed to the bakery. But instead I let myself cry. It was cathartic and quite a leap forward. I have decided that I'm not going to satisfy my emotions with food anymore, and yesterday was a HUGE victory in that area.

As for my son's father. He tries to be a good man, but he has a tendency to strong arm me when things don't go exactly his way. I typically don't fight with him, but it sounds like we're headed back to court in the very near future. He says I'm not giving him enough time with our son. DUH BITCH. You're in FLORIDA. Bring your butt up here and visit. I work, I can't just hop a plane when you feel like parenting, nor should I have to. He got pissed off because I told him I can't come for Christmas (I told him I was broke) and he got mad. I didn't tell him about the surgery. Next time I see him I'll be at least 50 pounds lighter.

BGB - I swear the pre-op diet makes me weepy. I have been more emotional than usual for the past week and a half. I cried at SCRUBS the other night. WEPT at America's Next Top Model. WTF?

I am "working from home" today, which means I'm not doing much work, and I'm cleaning up my house because my girlfriend's plane lands at 3pm. She's coming to keep me company and to help with the baby for a week.

Have a GREAT Tuesday, everyone! Again, sorry for the emotional dump. Sometimes it just gets to be too much for one (soon to be) little woman to handle! :)

STEPHC HOW ARE YOU DOING?!?!?!? You've been on my mind all day.

Laterz,

Nathalie

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
