Giggles,

Glad you had such a wonderful date. You should have made out with him though. That would have gotten you through your knee surgery better too! LOL:biggrin1:

Pink,

I'm glad you are starting to feel better, and way to go on the weight loss girl. Whoo-Hoo!!!:clap2::clap2::clap2:

I'm glad I got the letter back to, because I was thinking he wasn't interested. I sent him another letter today to his Amarillo address and I'm gonna be there this weekend! The other guy, Donny, got his letter and I was shocked by how he acted and pretty mad at first, but I understand why he doesn't want in another relationship right now. So, just friends, but that's ok. I can talk to him about almost anything, which makes me feel really good. I even told him about the letter to Steve and he seemed happy for me. We'll just have to see on both guys.

Chrispygal, that is very strange about these 2 guys. I think I might stay away from the 2nd 1 to! LOL I think the 1st guy sounds like you might have something there.

Cathy, how exciting! The man, Steve, I've told you guys about was my next door neighbor when my daughter was 4 and 5 years old, and she is 33 now. So, it's been a long time, but I found out he was divorced, so I'm going for it. If he's interested, I'm not going to miss the 2nd chance either. I'm proud of you! Don't let the CA bother you to much. They can treat it so much better these days.

ALL I have to say is: "Always the friend, never the girlfriend"

(or even hook-up buddy). Why is it that so many other ppl, people I would consider to be rather distasteful, still get to have a little fun, and date, and meet ppl that sort of thing. Not me. I never, ever get asked out or hit on by "the guy" its always some guy 10-12 years older than me. Which age isnt a big deal to me, but Im rather young and they are probably looking for different things than I am right now. I dunno, its hopeless I think, I get interested in guys, then end up having to hook them up with friends of mine so that they can find a relationship. Why arent I attractive to STRAIGHT guys? Oh YEAH the gay guys love me lol! And I love them, and I wish they were straight, because no straight guy is never as nice and sensitive, yet can be manly and what not as a gay guy, I swear it would kill them to have manners sometimes. Its just with my age group the size of your body is EVERYTHING, no guy wants to date the fat chick at this age (and some never grow out of it). I mean I dont even think its my weight sometimes, because much bigger girls than me get way more action than I do!!! I guess Im destined to be single, but Im telling you guys, Im not one for take backs, but if my ex boyfriend walked through that door right now, with the way he's been treating me, and asked me to take him back, I would in a heart beat...I miss him so much because I dont have anyone like that in my life anymore...I dont have a guy to be affectionate with or whatever,I have the Gay Mafia, and they arent much help lol!

KristiB,

I'm sorry you were so embarassed, but from this side, it's really funny. I can see myself doing the same thing, so I'm laughing with you, not at you. I can see myself running my mouth with my friend and wham, there they are. LOL At least you got to get some good eye candy!

Okay, I don't have anyone to share my weird men stories with so either rid them or skip this thread.

There are not alot of expats here. About 40 American households, 2 with single men that I know of. A few British, S. African, etc.

When you divide the single men between the single women, I think, by age category, its about a dozen or so women for each single guy. Now, does that mean women are more willing to move internationally on their own, or is it because men seem to marry women from other countries quicker.

So the dozen or so get passed around (I haven't participated). so when someone starts dating someone else, everybody know everything about his last 1,2,3 etc girlfriends.

I guess it really alleviate having to learn about someone from scratch.

Weird things that happen to me - yesterday at work, a very young guy, in his 20s, (Malawian) came up and told me I looked so good in my outfit the guys were waiting to see me in Malawian native dress. I am sorry but when I talk to most of the people at work, I am older than their parents!!

I haven't had a date in 12 years or as I like to say, during the purchase and sale of my last 5 motorcycles.

To be honest, I could not handle a date right now. Worrying about electricity, phone, internet, poisonous household bugs, getting stonewalled at work, understanding what people say, etc maxes me out. But I never would have quit my job and moved to Malawi without the band. Even if I never get another international job, I have had the opportunity of a lifetime.

I have been on safari here in Malawi, am going to safari in Zambia and visiting Victoria Falls in December, Capetown in January. Oh, and turning 50 in March.

Maybe I'll find a date when I return to the US in 2008. Celeste

I am 36 years old and working on getting this weight off and healthy like everybody else seems to be on the boards. A relationship will hopefully come with the good health but one thing at a time... if you know what I mean.

I am really hoping that this new healthy life will bring many changes and I will be up for anything. I don't know where I'm going, I just know I am getting away from where I've been.

Kristi - you're bad, but I love it! LOVE it, LOVE it! lol

Less than Baxter - self-confidence is a big factor. I bet you could have had those dates, but I understand that is very hard to put yourself out there and ask someone out. I've done it a couple times, and it's hard! lol. You're on the right track now to losing weight, and feeling better about yourself. Definitely keep posting here. I can't wait to hear about all the dating you'll be doing!!

Wootsie - I think it's wonderful that you are telling these guys that you're intersted! You deserve to have a wonderful, loving man in your life and if these guys aren't interested - it's their loss! Oh, and that first guy apologized up and down about how rude and inconsiderate he was. lol. I appreciated the apology.

Jodie - I understand what it's like to not have a man to be affectionate with. Even just to cuddle. It's tough to not have that, but making it through these times does help you have a better sense of self and make you stronger. And don't ever settle. You deserve to find the guy that is totally into you - and you'll find him!

Road Queen - I think it's awesome that you had the guts to move to a foreign country. What a great experience it must be! I don't think I'd be too thrilled with passing around the same guys either. Don't blame you there. But how nice to have the 20 year olds hitting on you. What a boost for the ego!

OK, so it's only been a week, but I want all of you to know that I am completely smitten with my old flame, and he is also smitten with me. I thank the band and the work I've done on myself in the past year. Without those things, I'd probably never have agreed to meet him, I'd have projected myself poorly if I had, and I never would have exposed myself to rejection by writing to tell him how I was feeling. I broke up with him all those years ago, so I don't know if he'd have ever gotten up the courage. We have decided to take it very slow, as he lives and works far away, and I still have a 15 year old at home. But from the content of our conversations, I have a feeling it isn't going to be long before that resolve becomes difficult to stick with. I actually went to see my therapist, because I thought maybe I was crazy to feel like this so quickly. He advised me that I would be crazy if I didn't grab this chance and go with my feelings. Have faith and do the work...miracles happen.

Cathy, I am so happy for you! I completely understand about the child at home part, though. I think I will probably use my daughter as an excuse to not get serious with someone. I hope I don't but I can honestly see myself doin it.

Chris(lessthanbaxter), Another man! Woo hoo! Okay, so you got the band, you're losing weight. We all here know how it feels to be passed over. So you know what's going to happen? YOU are one day going to be the hottie, while your friends get passed over! Just imagine that while you are pumping Iron at the gym.

Harlito, my dad weighs about what you started out at, and I wish he would do something about it. I worry for him, he's got borderline diabetes, phlebitis and sometimes gets gout in his toes. You are still young, I hope you didn't have any of these problems. But good luck with you in your journey.

Celeste, how hard it must be for you! I would enjoy some safaris, but not alone, probably. So you'll be back to the states in 08? Are you returning for good, or just for a short while?

Jodie, I feel your pain. Although you said some of these women were bigger than you, getting the action. Maybe they are getting the action because the men know they are willing to do things that you have to good sense not to do? I also get to hook up my girlfriends with men that I have met. I have this problem. I ALWAYS have hot friends. I never hang out with other overweight people, so maybe I am setting myself up for disappointment.

Wootsie, good luck with your neighbor. You have got guts.

Okay, I am going to post this and then hopefully do another one.

Kristi

Thanks for the encouragement Chrispy! I know I'm setting myself up for heartache, but I have to start somewhere. I have already had some very negative things happen with the guy I talk to on the phone all the time, but hopefully I will hear from my old neighbor. If I don't, it's his loss. If I do, all the better. I am just proud of myself for putting myself out there again. It has taken a long time and a lot of courage for me to do this.

Kristi, I think I know what you are saying. I know that I wanted to lose weight to get my life going as well. Being a man does not change that even without the hormones going amuck. Time doesn't stop ticking for any of us. There are so many things that I want to do in life and having a family is one of them and being in my 30s means that if I want to enjoy what most seem to enjoy I need to get a move on. But I don't know what is going to happen. What happens if I just go ape wild and become as lose as some of the wastebands in my shorts?! All these plans that are running around in my mind are on notice, things could change. I am almost afraid of what I will become! What if what I think I want is not that at all? Maybe going ape wild is what I need.

I think it's going to be fun either way... and healthier than the life I've been leading.

I have dated lots of guys that are somewhat overweight and that does not bother me as long as they are healthy. I think it would be fine to date a bandster myself. Just think---you could eat the same things and never have bread on the table!!! I think you do have to be happy with yourself to be happy in a relationship. I lost weight on phen/fen 10 years ago and boy was I happy then. Time has passed and I will admit that I am a little set in my ways and a professional so I can make it on my own but it would be nice to share everything with that "special someone". I also feel the big guy upstairs is in control of our lapband journey and our love lives.

What do you all think? :)

Kay

Hi Cal! What a good topic! To start a thread on this, go to the "General Lap-Band Discussion" thread, and then select the button that says "New Thread" or "Start a New Thread". It's that simple. I'll definitely post on that thread. It will be interesting to see what others do.

Jodie I hear ya. Gay guys LOVE me too. I cant hook a straight one who is not sketchy, old, too short, or a houdlum for the life of me. I mean, I have a HUGE range of types I find attractive. All races, ethinicities (there is a difference), nationalities, and religions (as long as they dont want me to convert). I dont even require that they are taller than me. Im 6'1" its a lot to ask. I mean really...WTF!

Maybe I not "out there" enough and maybe Im a little stuck up but whatever, its all because I have a poor self image. Tehehehe

Im not banded yet but I am definately expecting a beast to be unleashed when I start losing.

Would anyone be up for an evening sometime in the chat room? Maybe we can take votes on a time, and all be there. I am in the middle of a snowstorm, so tomorrow night would be fine. I am not leaving my house except for work. Don't even want to do that.

Kristi

Day before yesterday our high temp was 76, today our high is 28. Oklahoma weather, if you don't like it, give it a minute.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

      3. Doughgurl

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

    • LeighaTR

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
