Work after surgery

Recommended Posts

How much time was everyone out of work for? I am hoping my doctor will let me stay out 6 to 8 weeks after surgery . I work with people with mental health issues. I have to do a lot of restraining people.

I was out 4 weeks. My doc was willing to give me more but I was bored to tears and needed to get back to work!!

My doctor says he tells people 3-4 weeks. I plan on returning after 2 weeks which he said is reasonable to do. 6-8 weeks might be stretching it a little, but maybe since your job is so physical that would be acceptable.

My coworker was sleeved beginning of Jan and the doctor has not cleared him because of what we do. I was just curious

I took 3.5 weeks off and like above I got so bored I was going crazy and wasted money shopping and running around.

Everyone is different after surgery so it's best to arrange a good amount of time and have enough over not enough

I only took 2 weeks off but I have a pretty easy job physically.

I was sleeved on a Monday and went back to work on the road the following week. I might not recommend that for everyone, though. It wasn't very easy. An extra week might have helped.

I'm taking 3 weeks off, but my job is easy as far as physical stress. I'm hoping to be back in the gym within 3-4 weeks doing light stuff, hopefully.

Lol my job is easy. I love it lol ... Do I actually have to lift . No but just incase we have to restrain someone I need to be able to do so. This is not something we do everyday but have to be ready at all times.

I'm curious too. After surgery my job requires a lift test of 150lbs. I will hopefully see the surgeon next week and will ask then!!

I lift people for a living... And it's rare to have someone under the 150 mark including equipment and stuff....

I do not see my surgeon for another 2 weeks . Can you let me know what your surgeon says.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
