Me Thinks The World Just became a little safer

Recommended Posts

Speaking as a Canadian who was very much interested in the American election I just want to say I feel a little safer now that the Republican power base has been diminished.

To many people around the world George Bush is the most dangerous man on the planet and the fact that he has less power today is a good thing.

Interestingly enough the Democratic party would be more apt to align with the the Conservative party here in Canada. Our good neighbours to the south tend to be somewhat more conservative then we Canadians but we plan to keep sneaking over the boarder and spreading our Liberal manifesto. At least until you put up the new Berlin wall on your northern boarder

Cheers

Ugh. Here's a Conservative who'd prefer a wall. :) Sorry, Tommy, I just have a different perspective and the election results are a real dissappointmnet to me, other than the fact that Nancy Pelosi is sheer fodder for the Conservative Talking Heads. Now THAT will be fun. Not that she'll say anything different, she'll just be saying it more often and with a wider audience. Geez, Louise, Cananda can HAVE her! Glad you feel safer, though??? I'm shakin' in muh boots.

Bravo,

Me three. I voted for all of the Bushes all of the times and wished to God he could run again. Can you imagine what kind of shape we would be in right now if Kerry had of gotten in, it's scary. I just pray what ever the Democrats do that they don't mess up all the years of our cleaning up.

I've heard variations of this for a couple of days now, so I'll pick on you a bit :) and ask what is it that you think will happen that is so scary? I'm honestly curious.

I am torn on this issue. If you look back at the economy, the best times are when Dems are in office, but..... I am from Texas and I am ready for the wall too! Hell, I have lots of energy now, I will come help build it!

Another 9/11, for one. Here's a Liberal, "Oh please Mr. Terrorist, don't bomb us, let's talk about this. I'm sure that you are feeling so disenfranchised these days, what with all of the terrible things going on in Mecca and that evil Israel that shouldn't even be a country, but if you and I could just have a converstion, I'm sure we could work this out..." KaBoooom.

THAT'S scary.

I seem to recall that 9/11 happened on Bush's watch and there were no bombs involved.

Maybe you are referring to the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that Bush "saved" us from.

Unfortunately, we don't have enough military support to protect ourselves from the ones who really DO have bombs, like North Korea. Everybody's in Iraq, on a liberation mission, since the WMD thing didn't work out.

What Carlene said, AND...that freakin' liberal Kerry actually went to war while Dubya hid out in a safe place daddy found for him.

I'm a liberal...do you have any doubt that I'd be willing to kick ass if someone got invaded MY space? thing is, being that I actually showed up for military duty and worked in a branch of Military Intelligence, I'd try to bomb the shit out of the right country. A major differnece from how the moron in chief did it.

And now...I'm off to console my husband. His good friend had to leave work early today when the news arrived that his son was just killed in Iraq. National Guard...yup...that's what HE signed up for.

Just curious as to what the republicans cleaned up that the democrats are going to mess up. Apparently, your diehard republicans turned against their own party en mass.

Actually, it wasn't the republicans that turned agianst the party, it was the undecided idependants who sided with the dems. The problem with the rep party was they were all trying to show how liberal they were. Well, you know what: If you get up and say how the war is bad and Bush is bad and look how liberal we are so vote for us, the electorate is going to say: You're right. Liberal is better, so lets vote for the real liberals.

The exact same thing happened two years ago. All the Democrats were on board with the war, all pro-national security, all patriotic - all conservative. So the electorate voted conservative.

This is election was in no way unusual. It is extrememly common and even expected to lose house seats in a non-presidential election. All this will do is show America how liberal policies hurt the country in the long run before the "big" election in '08. It will be a pain to have a vindictive and petty congress until then, but it's a price that has to be paid.

(Guess which side I'm on :))

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
