So I'm supposed to be having the shakes as part of my pre-op diet? And Protein Bars, I thought just puréed foods?! I'm more confused now.

Oh yeah and that was the other thing, it says no sugars but then it says juices, juice is full of sugar. Clearly, I just don't understand.

Mine allows me to have protein bars up to a certain amount of carbs each day.

today is day one of my pre surgery diet. I just downloaded an app for my phone to keep track of my progress. I think having that in front of my face all day will be a good reminder to stay on track.

The app includes BMI, BMR, Body fat and hip to waist ratio. It also allows me to graph everything out as well as set weight goals.

For me to reach my goal weight exactly one year from surgery I will need to lose 2.4 lbs a week. To me that seems very doable and realistic. And since every year seems to fly by so fast, for once I like the idea that one year from now will seem like no time at all.

My first SG though is to get to BMI of 45 by surgery date, I'm at 46.6 right now. That means I need to lose 11.4 lbs. Fingers crossed.

What are everyone else's goals?

Hi I'm new just wondering if anyone has had Dr Mario Almariza in Tijuana Mexico do their sleeve and if you have how was your experience? I'm really considering but I'm scared.

i did on the 1 st of Feb. All my incisions did not heal, one is really infected. I am on antibiotics 4 a day for 10 days! Other than that and the vomiting i had the first day and a half after surgery its been ok! Just expect small little clinic in a shopping center alot of transporting back and forth from hotel to clinic with those bumpy roads and discomfort with a drain for two days after surgery and 3 hours waiting to get back to USA on the boder check

Hi guys... Congratulations to all that have been sleeves and to all the others who have made the decision to live healthier lives. I'm getting sleeves by Dr Ortiz on Feb 19 at OCC... Is anyone else on this date and center?

I've done ok on my liquid diet today. Got some new products' date=' which has helped me to do better today. Its tough, that's for sure. I am soooooo tired! 14 more days and I will be on my way to Tijuana. The closer it gets the more nervous I become.

My mother has been giving me a really hard time about my decision. She told me that she doesn't agree or support the surgery. She told me to eat 3oz's at a time. Well.....I could do that IF MY STOMACH WAS SMALLER! <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> I'm so excited for my life to start after the surgery. My job has a big fundraising event every year in April and I want a dress that I feel good in. I have two weddings to attend this summer and want to look nice. I turn 40 in July and refuse to be fat at 40. I can't wait for this to start.[/quote']

I wish u the best of luck. She will eventually come around.

No, no, she won't. But it's a nice thought. I know she's going to ask about my surgery date when she comes on Sunday. I plan on telling her I have to go to a conference in April for work (not a lie...I really do) and will do it after that. By that time, I'll have had plenty of recovery time and have dropped some weight. I'll just tell her I already had it and didn't want to stress HER out...bahahaha! Yeah right, I usually double a kolonopin with a shot of tequilia (no joke) when she comes to visit. I will never tell her I did it in Mexico. As a mom myself, I often tell my kids (especially my youngest son who is quite the dare devil) that there are things that I'm sure they do, but they should never tell me. Like when my son and his buddy built the bike ramp and the tricks they were doing. I didn't need to know about it. All it makes me do is worry.

Surgery in 6.5 days! I can hardly believe it. I've been on my pre-op diet for a week and lost about 6 lbs. I guess that's not too bad since I unknowingly wasn't doing it right at first but I wish I'd have lost ten. I haven't been dying of hunger until today, so I puréed a tiny amount of food but since eating it I feel sick. :( I still need to lose another 5 lbs or so to get to a BMI of 45 so I hope I can manage, should be easier that now I'm away from home (working out of town) and don't have to be around my husbands amazing cooking.

How's everyone else doing with their pre-op diets??

I am officially post up. Was sleeved valentines day (2 days ago). I was ready for the clinic like strip mall type setting and was actually surprised. Nicer than I thought it'd be. Only thing that really bugged me was they mopped often and used that fabuloso stuff so it was perfumey a bit.

Hotel Ticuan is nice. Nicer than many of the hotel I've stayed in for trips to Disneyland!

I get the drain removed today, had a leak test (X-ray and yucky tasting stuff) and they said all looks well. I'm going to buy my X-ray so I can have something to show my doctor.

Hope everyone is doin well with either their preop diet, or their postop recovery!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
