I haven't weighed myself in a week and when I stepped on the scale this morning I dropped a whopping 1 pound! Wow! My surgery was November 19th, and I'm only down 26 pounds :( I feel like I'll probably be a slow loser, but I can't help getting frustrated. Anyone else out there lose slow at first and then speed up?

I am in the same boat...I am 10 weeks out and just at 25lbs as of today. I have had some stalls.....One lasted from 6 Dec to 28 Dec and I have had others.....I am losing alot of inches....I am 5'4 and I started at 217. My doc did tell me I'd lose slower BUT I thought I'd atleast be down 30lbs by 1 Feb....My surgery was on 26 Nov. I do find that the more Water I drink the better I do...IDK....

My starting weight was 268 so I have about 130 to lose . My surgeon wants me to be losing 20 a month, I'm not even close to that.

Your surgeon is a nut. 20lbs a month is a too higher target to put on you and bordering on unhealthy after the first month. Unless you are male - they lose exceptionally faster than women. Halve that (10lbs) - my surgeons average weight lost per month and you will lose all your weight over 13 months. Much better for your skin. There are so many factors which can attribute to slow loss and at the end of the day it's a lifelong commitment so makes no difference if you lose it over 6 months or 2 years.

I just saw my doctor on Friday. He said my goal for the next 2 months is 20 pounds. FWIW

Don't freak!! I am 17 weeks out tomorrow and I have lost 38 lbs. I can tell you I lost the first 30 in the first seven weeks. That means 8 lbs in 10 weeks! We are all so very different. Just stick to the program and you will do fine. I really thought I would lose more, but that is still an average of 2.25 a week. These boards can be good, but they can also play on your emotions when we see others around us posting I am 3 months out and 60 lbs down! I have thought what the hell is wrong with me. All of our journeys are individual. Look at your weekly average. You are doing great!

Check out my stats=slow loser!!!

My surgery was November 14th. I have only lost 24lbs. I am older and now finding out I may be pre menopausal. I am going to do bio-identical hormone therapy. We shall see if that makes a difference. The last thing a nurse told me leaving the hospital is "you will be amazed at how fast the weight falls off.. I am amazed at how SLOW it is coming off, considering how little I am eating. It's no wonder I could never stay on a diet and lose weight and keep me motivated.

I am eating about 800 calories a day, I add in more calories if I exercise. I use the app my fitness pal. Are y'all familiar with that app? I think it's a great one! I don't get in 64oz of liquid, I usually drink 32 to 40 oz.

Make sure you are getting enough Protein and Water first. If you eat too many carbs, the weight will come off much slower. I've noticed now that I'm 8 months out and at a stall, that I'm able to eat more and am hungry more often. The weight loss does get slower as you get further out. But if you make sure you are getting in that 85 grams of protein a day, your weight loss should pick up. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
