Tanning beds or sunless tanning products?

Recommended Posts

The difference is stretch marks can't kill you.

The sun won't kill you either if you don't obsessively overdo it. As a matter of fact tanning in moderation has proven to have numerous health benefits to include being the best source of Vitamin D, it reduces symptoms of depression, and releases endorphins into your body that studies have proven to have positive effects on individuals moods.

I prefer sunlight to tanning beds, but in moderation both are fine. You need to understand that tanning beds deliver more concentrated rays, so 3-5 minutes in the begining is all you need. But just like all good things, people take them to extremes & they become the tragedies you hear about on the news.

(and those stretch marks I'm betting are from bearing children, which BTW, women have died from)

Maybe it's a full moon, but lately I've seen a lot of snarky, sarcastic remarks from posters. Not sure what's going on.

In response to your original question...I've done both tanning beds (not recently) and self tanners. Lots of good ones out there and you don't have to pay a lot of money to get a decent product. It's all in the prep and applcation. I usually apply self tanner in the evening, after shaving, exfoliating and drying well. Apply with a light hand, wear some latex gloves and then apply a tiny amt to your hands so you don't have hamburger helper hands! LOL. Careful around thicker skinned sites, like elbows/ankles..Apply those areas sparingly. Wait until you are completely dry before putting on PJ's. I have also done the spray tan. Some are better than others. It's pretty good for a weekend, but if you are doing it for a vacation, the salt water/chlorine will fade this pretty quickly and it tends to be more splotchy than if you had been doing self tanners at home for a while. Hope this helps.

KK66 is right on! If you're doing self- tanners, make sure you put a bit of lotion on first around elbows, ankles, etc. Watch out around eyebrows, hairline...you don't want Lindsay Lohan face. Don't forget earlobes too, in case you wear your hair back. If you're doing spray tanning (Neutrogena makes a good spray) do it in the garage or out on the deck or somewhere it won't get on floors and make them slick - I've almost killed myself doing sprays in the bathroom.

The funky smell (and yes, almost all self-tanners have them) is the chemical that turns your skin golden.

I do like Jergens, L'Oreal Sublime Bronze, and Clarins gel (good but pricey). Google "good self-tanner" or join Makeup Alley (free) for awesome reviews on self-tanners and also any kind of makeup, creams, hair care, etc. It's awesome.

HAve fun!!

Also, Origins sells a great product.called Vitazing..a face moisturizer with a bit of self tanner in it. Also, the Olay Regenerist line has a face moisturizer with self tanner in it too. I found the body self tanners too much for my face. You can always add more color via bronzer ( I love MAC's bronzing powders)

I think a natural kiss of color is the best way to go. When tanning is overdone, we risk the 'Snookie" look. Never attractive. Plus, using the self tanners almost forces you to moisturize your body every day

And tanned skin, does make you look thinner!

Bobbi Brown makes a good bronzing powder too... Bobbi Brown bronzing powder in medium. It expensive (about $36) but is great on even pale skin like mine (I got Dad's German skin). It got great reviews from almost all who use it.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
