Sign me up! I find myself visiting this site daily and I have learned so much .But for me it seemed to be hostile at times. I'm all for positive reality based support. Because I have basically no support group here at home I was great full to have found this site. I know that I could do a topic search for the answers to my questions but I could do that on just about any Google search. What was important to me is to know that there was a real person on the other end of my post interested in speaking back to me. No matter how many times before that had heard my comment or question. Sometime it is more about the comfort and support than it is about the actual question. Sometimes we are just scared and need that connection.

Hi D Mixon,

Welcome... we certainly are a friendly warm group so you will have lots of support from all of us. I know it has helped me to browse the chat rooms and open forums. I tried to view your profile and noticed you placed "undecided" regarding having the surgery. Is this correct? Talk to us girl... what is troubling you?

No I have definitely decided. Hopefully it will be in March. I am self pay and will have all my funds together at that time. I have had phone consult w/ my Dr. And he saw no problem . I love this site! I am 61 yrs. old and very blessed health wise except bad knees. I have gained a lot of courage and insight while getting an occasional giggle from the group on here.

Hi, Welcome to this friendly thread. I have very bad knees also. I was told that my only option was 2 knee replacements. The pain had become unbearable and that helped my decision to get the sleeve. I had surgery on November 14 and have now lost 45 pounds. I am 55 years old. I am off pain medication and am walking for at least an hour a day. It was the best decision I have ever made.

I have already had 2 replacements on the same knee and now I'm having trouble with the other. Two years ago I gave my insurance provider (BC/BS) a choice . A $12,000 sleeve surgery or a $75,000 knee surgery. Since my plan doesn't cover weight reduction they happily chose the later. And we wonder why medical insurance is so high.

Hi Dmixon, I have one bad knee but after surgery and losing 58 lbs so far my knee doesn't hurt much anymore! I am doing treadmill at 3 miles an hour and doing two miles in 49 minutes a min of three times a week, knee is holding up great! 57 years old and am hopeful to avoid any more major health issues!! Welcome

LOL... we should rename this thread for the over 50 crowd!! I am 59 and also have bad knees but only had a meniscus repair on one which has weakened the knee alot. I feel pretty confident with weight loss and more walking I should get the use of it back. I can already get up the stairs a little better now!

I must have missed all those unfriendly threads people are talking about. I guess it's because once I start reading something I don't like, I click on the next interesting topic.

Yea I need a little oil for my ankles. Using the treadmill seems to be irritating them! Any ideas in how to better support my ankles while exercising? Also any thoughtson good workout shoes??

Hi ibehere10, My ankles grab me to at odd times while walking. We lose weight even in our feet! Try an ankle brace or wrap with an ace bandage before getting on the treadmill. A really good sneaker to walk in is essential for me. One that gives ankle support even better. Since my feet are 9.5 4E wide its hard to find shoes that fit except New Balance but I would do some research online. Some people swear by Rockport brand but a shoe that has a good arch support and feels great to step in to may be great. Try going to an athletic retail store and try on several kinds to find what is best for you. Just because they are super pricy doesn't mean they are the best.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
