I stopped taking my birth control pills a few days before surgery. Figured the first few weeks after were going to be a no-go and I wouldn't feel up to anything anyway. Plus my dr said no pills. When did everyone start taking their birth control pills, or did you ever stop taking them?

I have the same question - did the same thing.

Here's what I'm thinking. I was sent home with an antacid pill to take twice a day, and the birth control pill is way smaller than that, so it's probably okay to start back taking.

I'm six days post-op and am doing good with no nausea finally.

I think I'll take the BC pill at a different time than when I take the prescription that I came home with to avoid having too much to digest at once.

Would love to hear any advice from others.

Good Luck!

I never stopped taking them, per surgeons and anesthesiologist orders.

I didn't either... talked to my surgeon, CNP and PCP, all said it was ok.

I stopped taking it 3 months pre op. supposedly it's to reduce the chance of a blood clot but those stupid heparin shots pretty much did it for me. I was told to use condoms for 3 months post op as well and then start on it again.

Guess every surgeons different.

I stopped them as well and was told by the hospital staff not to take them for 3 months. During my 2 weeks check up with my surgeon I was told that I could go back on them once my next cycle started. So I was only off them for a little over a month. My suggestion would be to talk with your surgeon and even your gynecologist, they may have better answers. I have had no complications so far with my birth control pills and I am 7 weeks post op.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
