Dec. 17 Sleevers - How are you on week out?

Recommended Posts

Okay... I gave a few things to confess. Maybe coming clean with some things will help me get back on track. I've been having a really difficult time with head hunger. It started with chewing and spitting out food. Christmas cookies' date=' buttered bread . Then I started putting Hershey kisses in my mouth and letting them melt. WHY AM I STRUGGLING SO Much?! In the last few days I've had the hardest time controlling myself.... Sneaking bites of Mac and cheese or eating Pringles.... I don't understand what is wrong with me!! I don't blend or strain my creamed soups... I guess I expected to get sick and learn my lesson, but nothing I've eaten has mad me sick....yet. I thought I was strong! i thought I could do this!! I need preyers.... And therapy. I'm sorry. I feel like a failure. Please don't ignore this post. I need feedback. Even if its just to chew me out![/quote']

I think we all are going to slip here and there but just know it wont help with our goals! I also want to eat everything but im so afraid of a leak and or feeling sick i just dont! I did eat 2 cashews and chewed them really well just to chew something! Just remember that the food you are eating or sneaking is what got us all here to begin with! I am guilty of slipping too but now we must move forward and past this onto better choices towards our goal!

You don't need to be chewed out or judged, thats the last thing you need! I had two days where I was just in the pits of depression because I really missed the comfort of stuffing my face and it upset me to know that I'll never be able to so that again. And, yes, I knew this before surgery but reality just sets in after surgery. You WILL get through this and you will NOT be a failure. I'll confess too that I am now eating regular food. Of course, very small quantity, chew really well, and no drinking 30 minutes before & after. Right or wrong is for each person to think what they want. If you read all these posts on here, it's amazing how many different programs there are. From Clear Liquids for 2 weeks, full liquids for a month, to eating regular food 3 days post-op. That being said, I feel SO much better, physically and mentally since starting to eat 'real food'. Just try to make healthy choices and remember that you just had major surgery, anesthesia alone can make your emotions run wild, not to mention the major changes your body and mind are going through! It will take some time but breathe through it, pray, go for a walk. You'll be feeling great in no time and you will rock that sleeve!

MissJessica,

I had my surgery on the 21st so I don't have much experience to help you with. I am married to a councilor though and have learned a few tricks to help with mental hunger. The things that work for me the most is write in a journal, take a walk, or read something. Then of course if you make a bad food decision shake it off and continue trying to make healthy choices. Good Luck!

I was sleeved on the 17th also. I am down 19 lbs. my old scrubs fit again!! No more xxl!!! I have ups and down. I feel much better this week than last week. The incisions on my left side are very tender. I am also struggling with wanting to eat. I know want to smell everyone's food! I am too afraid I would swallow something if I tried to chew something, so I won't attempt the "chew and spit" trick. I am getting my liquids, but the Protein is hard. It all is gross.

OMG that's so funny- I have also been just smelling foods that look so good to me- I have to have SOME part of it- at least smelling it is safe! LOL!

Read all your post...Im so happy that all are on the right track and feeling good. # Castiel this is for you...be encouraged...I endured those negative comments also. This is my take......this is your life you need to get healthy for you dont worry about the man to the left or to the right. They dont live in your body. I told every one in my office I did it....its a about me and my health...I cant worry about what others think...At the end of the day I will be healthy and enjoying this one life we get.

As for me im a dec 17 'er also down 15lbs felling great going into the puree stage.cant wait to hit the gym full blast. The mid section sawness is disappearing. A little tired of the shakes but I keep pressing on. I have notice my knee pain also slightly disappearing. Well congratulations on every one progresss.....Again best decision I have made for ME!

Thank you jewels, Alabamasleever and blue eyes! Your thoughtful feedback has really helped me feel and do better. I'm still struggling with the amount I'm eating( I can eat at least a cup of creamed Soup at a sitting). So I plan on discussing the size of my pouch with my surgeon on my 2 week post-op appt. but the fact that I can confess and get sincere feedback from people that really understand what I'm going through helps a lot! I hope you are all doing well today. When are you guys planing on returning to work? What kind of work do u do?

I'm a nurse and going back Monday. My surgeon cleared me this week to do whatever I want, no lifting restrictions or anything. Planning on starting back to gym next week also.

Im a cashier for a grocery store and i do a lot of lifting pulling and pushing so my doctor took me out for s month. Im finding it hard to be home all the time and not busy like normal so when i go see my doctor on the 3rd maybe he'll let me go back! I need something to do other than being home thinking about food!

Wow!!! I am not as brave as you. I've had these crazy cravings (although not as before surgery) it's more the idea of what smells or looks good; but I never considered to actually have a bite, I'm way too scared of having a leak and having to go back to the hospital, and going through the worst (in my opinion) part of this again.

I'm sticking to what literature I was given to deal with this like: taking a leisurely walk- phone a friend- read a book. Me, I like to go outside away from temptations and enjoy a slow walk around my yard and make mental notes of what improvements I'm gonna do when I'm better Abel.

The way I see it, this a second chance to do things differently. To make better choices about my health and life style. Why go back to what made so unhealthily that I had to resort to such a drastic solution. I cannot live the same way as before.

If only I could get over the weird sensation in my stomach every time I swallow, I hate it!! Oh and my urge to burp every five seconds or maybe not seconds minutes... The seconds are actually held up by hiccups!!!

(Lol)

When will this stage go away someone . . .anyone ?

Missjessica-no one should chew you out, silly girl! You are here seeking support and advice. One thing that might help is to get all the foods you are not supposed to have out of the house. If that isn't possible (like if you have kids), then put the ones you crave in a different spot so you actually have to think about where they are. Maybe just having those few extra moments to think will give you pause to stop yourself.

This is hard - really really hard! But don't think of yourself as a failure. That kind of thinking starts the negative downward spiral. You slipped, we all will at sometime, but give yourself a reset and start again.

You said therapy as a joke I suspect, but having someone to talk these feelings through with will really help. You are going through a major life change.

Hang in there. You will make it through this tough time. The reward is gonna be great!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
