pain when eating and vomiting stomach bile

Recommended Posts

I am kind of baffled as to what is going on with me. I was three months post op on dec 20th. I never had an issue with food after surgery. I did liquids for the first week then jumped right into solid foods after that with no issues. Yesterday I took two bites of food and I got tummy pain. Ive eaten turkey before with no problem. Around 830pm I knew I needed to eat so I tried string cheese (I eat it All the time) and got the pain again so didnt finish it. So I dont eat anything today but try and get liquids down but I get a very uncomfortable fullness with Water. I took a drink of water and then immediately vomited up about 12 oz of stomach bile. I am totally worried at this point because Ive never thrown up bile. Im feeling hungry so I have a very small bite of lean ground beef and pain and nausia hit again :( Could this just be a stomach bug? Have anyone else experienced anything like this months post op? I would really appreciate you input!

Be sure to let your doc know. I'm not sure how long the risk of a leak is but since u were fine then this came up all the sudden does seem viral.

Have you been taking your acid reducer? Sounds like you're getting a build up of bile and it's trying to get out. Maybe call the surgeon's office and ask if it doesn't get any better soon. Good luck

I actually ran out of my perscription acid reducer so I have been taking a cheap over the counter one with tums. The burning is terrible and I am constantly getting little bubbles in my throat. I will have to have my surgeon send in a new perscription for the Acid reducer and see if that is the problem. Thank you!

Would not taking a strong enough acid reducer cause the pain I get while eating???

You sound exactly like I did a week ago, but I ended up finding an acid reducer that works and got an endoscopy. They ended up dilating my esophagus and poor pain is gone when I eat. You might have tightening around the opening to your sleeve. As for the bile, as for actigall, it's a prescription to decrease the amount of bile produced and prevents gallstones. Good luck!

Just an update-- the pain was definitely from too much stomach acid. Got back on the prevacid and within 2 days I had no more pain :) Sweet relief!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
