How long before you were comfortable?

Recommended Posts

How long after your surgery before you could comfortably sit at a desk and complete a full day of work? I sit at a desk all day. I had my gall bladder removed laproscopically w/gas to inflate the abdomen and I'm guessing the recovery after VSG may be similar?

For the gall bladder, I had surgery Thursday and went back to work the next Monday. Appreciate your feedback!

Well, I had the VSG Monday and was back to work Friday, to dang short in my book. Felt like crap for about 2 months and then felt better. Starting to exercise really helped out a lot.

I also had my surgery on a Thursday and went back the following Thursday. I have a sit down job, but I think I could have went back Monday, but I was really really tired. So to me the week off was more a resting period for me. I was super tired, but after about a week it got better ;)

I had my surgery last Tuesday and came into the office this Monday. No problems. I do get up and walk around just to move a bit. But other than that, I was fine to come back.

Wow, you guys are great but I can't even go back until after the first of the year when I have my first post-op appointment! I also don't think I could yet either...my stomach still hurts and 2 days at work and I'd be soo dehydrated!

I had surgery Monday 12/10. I was back to work at my desk job on Thursday, 12/13 (worked from home that day and went back to the office on 12/14.) I've had no problems and feel great. No painkillers since leaving the hospital on 12/11, incisions healing wonderfully, and just a small amount of soreness around the largest incision which is almost completely resolved now.

I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work on Monday. I was still taking pain meds and was moving a bit slow, but was just fine for desk work. No problems whatsoever. I actually had more problems trying to get myself in a comfortable position when I went to bed than sitting at my desk at work.

Now I don't know if this had anything to do with it, but my surgeon had me sitting in a chair about 2 hours after surgery and I was allowed very, very little time in the hospital bed. If I wasn't sitting I was walking. Sometimes I was sleeping sitting up. Since I had to wear those inflating, moving, pressurized leg things in the bed, I really didn't mind not being in it.

This thread is very helpful. I have a job where I can sit or stand or walk around as needed and was hoping I could get away with just a week off. This is encouraging!

I was told by my doctor and his staff I could be back teaching in a week. Then in surgery they found a hiatal hernia which made recovery harder (breathing hurts when out of breath, cough, etc). I was tooo weak at one week, and not sure how I would have been able to get all my shakes and Water in had I gone back. Then magically on day 10 I felt like my old self again. Clear headed, strong, and ready for my new life. By day 12 I was cleaning out my closet of my BIG clothes. Everyone is different. Good luck and merry Christmas !!!!

I had surgery on a Tuesday and planned to go back half-time the following week. I unfortunately had internal stitch pain that prevented me from moving very much without severe pain. So the following Monday I did not go back in. But starting the next day I went back part-time and then full-time on Friday. If you are a lucky one without stitch pain, I don't see why it would be an issue to go back on Monday. Remember since you sit alot you are prone to blood clots so you have to keep moving...even it if hurts. :)

I'm new at my job so I couldn't afford to take much time off...but in hindsight...I wish I had taken a full two weeks just to focus on my recovery.

I had my EGD on Tuesday, sleeve on Wednesday and went back to work the next Monday. I had to force myself to stay at my desk and not go assist with patient care. I also only worked 5-6 hours those first few days back.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
