First appointment is 14th February. I was initially ment to see him in October but cancelled due to 1/ not having the support of my husband and relatives 2/ wanted one last attempt myself . That was a complete failure as ive put on 4kg since then.

After much descussion and telling my husband and close relatives that i am doing this with or without their support, they have accepted it. So.... im just waiting. I wonder if they have a standby list for any cancellations. Maybe i could be seen earlier that feb 14th. I hate the waiting game..

Hi, regardless of what some say, this is serious major surgery. I don't believe it should ever be performed as a day procedure, full stop.

Bronwyn, I am sure your hub and family will suport you when they start to see your results with it. It is for your health after all.

Are any of you thinking about having any kind of plastic surgery down the track? I am thinking of having a breast reduction and lift to give my girls a bit of a hoick up!:biggrin1: Susannah

Susannah - people don't mean it's not a major decision just that it's not an actual "major surgery" from a medical point of view. Lap band isn't considered a major surgery by surgeons unless you have something else seriously wrong with you (co-morbs) or a really high BMI.... the gastric bypass or BPDS are considered the major weight loss type surgeries as it cuts vital parts and the lap band is considered minor and minimally invasive as there are only a few tiny incisions made and no organs are cut/rearranged and most people are back on their feet the next day and right to go back to work within a few days to a week (major surgery usually means it leaves you out of action for a month or longer). Day surgery is common practice around the world for this procedure unless you have a complication. While it's a major thing "to us" to have it done it's nothing compared to a hysterectomy; heart transplant; knee reconstruction - those are considered by surgeons as actual major surgeries due to invasivness and the toll they take on the body. It's still a major decision for most people to have this surgery and we all just have to trust our docs judgement on day or overnight case.... if you choose day and have a complication they don't send you home, they send you to the nearest hospital.

Hi Cam, you have just made me feel so much calmer about having this procedure. I think any time you are under anesthetic though it is of concern. I like the way you explain things in your posts.Susannah

Hi Fee... Ive joined a gym so hopefully once i have my op i'll actually go instead of just wasting the membership. I plan to try to tone up etc and see if that works prior to considering plastic surgery. Gotta try.... Did you have your lap banding in a hospital or day procedure??

I think i'll be having mine at Western Private too. How long were you in hospital? Did you have any post op problems. I experience a huge amount of pain in my chest, back and left shoulder post a past laproscopic procedure which they put down to the unreleased gas in my body. Im scared to go through that pain again. What pain killers did they give you after surgery?

I was in hospital over night....got done at 9.30 pm and left the follwing day at 2pm, so really not that long.

The only post op i experienced was not been able to go the toilet, i was really constipated. I had a little pain in my left shoulder but wasnt really to bad at all.

I had to take dissolvable panandol.... :notagree yuk...they were disgusting but you could be described something diff it just depends on the individual

Hi Bronnie, It may take you a little while after your first consultation on Feb 14 to be booked for the surgery, because you will have to do several tests that can take weeks in between. Ask them how you can speed it up if you can. Good on ya! Susannah

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
