Any january surgery out there

Recommended Posts

My surgery date is Jan. 14th. I am nervous also. I am also open to suggestions to making the preop diet have a little variety.

I start my pre-op two week liquid diet tomorrow and I'm so excited and nervous! Packing a variety of powders that I like since i will be traveling through the 6th. Click Protein coffee, nectar strawberry Mousse, Unjury chicken broth, Jay Robb tropical dreamsicle, and I add Benefiber to them so I will feel fuller longer. Once I return home, I can fix up other flavors such as vanilla with Torani sugar free syrups. I'm picky and need lots of variety.

Thanks for all of the ideas! Where do you buy your broth and other powders at? I have been buying Protein powdes at Walmart. Also I am going to college and classes begin Jan. 7th and my surgery date is Jan. 14th. I am only taking that week off from school. I only have one class a day except on Wednesday! I am determined!

I personally haven't found any powders that I like; they all have a very similar aftertaste. But, I find that I like almost all of the pre-mixed, ready to drink ones (the Premier Protein at costco are my favorite so far and they've got like 30 grams of protein!).

As for broths, I saw a suggestion on another forum that rocks - buy Soups that are chicken broth based, like chicken noodle, chicken & dumplings etc (I buy the Progresso light) and then just strain out the broth and it tastes MUCH better than plain chicken broth (of course it adds some sodium, but it's not like chicken broth is LOW sodium to start with lol.gif ). It does!! thumbsup.gif

My surgery is set for Jan 24... 3 hours away from my city. I'm waiting for the hospital to call me with the post-op appt for the pre exams. I am excited and highly nervous at the same time because i am highly highly lactose intolerant...ugh. i am experimenting on Protein powders and drinks now to see which ones i can tolerate especially the popular ones everyone seem to be using (isopure clear) ordered Unjury and nectar (not in yet). Listen to what i am doing...my daughter is the only one in the world who knows i am going through this WLS...well, everyone in our family was purchased a plane ticket to go to a family function and its 3 weeks after my surgery. Lots of eating out will be involved and im not sure how i will be able to eat , oops drink my drinks and keep up the secret of me not eating food at the restaurants with the family by only drinking and sipping Soups, ,,this will be a MAJOR challenge along with dealing with the after effects of the surgery....ughhhh pray for strength for me please!!!

Don't stress about the family function. Go ahead as normal, then feign a stomach upset/gastro. Have you Protein drink in the hotel before you eat out then settle for a peppermint tea, "to settle your stomach" when you are out with everyone. If anyone really pushes you on it, tell them in confidence you have a stomach ulcer and can't handle anything too much to eat.

I'm having surgery on jan 21 then it is my sister in law's 50th on feb 1. My "stomach ulcer" is going to be playing up that night!

Good luck. Fingers crossed most people don't even pay attention to what we eat or don't eat.

My surgery is on the 9th. I'm ready to go. Would love to have buddies that are being done same time as I am to compare and talk afterwards.

I was January 11th of last year. I just wanted to say that by this time next year, you will be a whole new person. I loved the ride. Each bit of weight loss revealed more of the true me and each bit revealed more that I could do.

Yesterday I ran 1/4 mile up a steep mountain road at 9,000 feet. Just ran up that hill to the car with heavy boots and a parka and didn't get winded.

I loved the ride. I hope you all do too!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
