BTB are you in Houston? I'd sign up with you but my 1/2 marathon is that weekend at Disney. Darn!!!

There is another race in Kemah in March I'm thinking about doing. However' date=' it involves a team. A full marathon with 4 runners or a half marathon with 2 runners or single runners doing each by themselves.

I am just North of Houston....near Cleveland TX if you know where that is. My 10K is gonna be in downtown Houston but my 1/2 is going to be in Groveton, TX....Davy Crockett National Forest.

Like and double like this.....

I did 5 miles this morning on the trails and I wasn't ready to stop at the end. The first time I ran trails I could have died after 3 miles. It's my cross over addiction I guess. I'm doomed.

Just ran 6 miles. Felt great. I ate some little "energy squares" made of whole grains' date=' nuts, seeds and Macao nibs (unsweetened chocolate) with some PB2. The last mile was like running down hill. I had visions of Olympic gold. It must have been a lack of oxygen or something. :)[/quote']

Would "kind bars" be a little like this "energy square"? I'm just talking about ingredients and ignoring they are of different sizes. I am assuming you made these because of the inclusion of PB2. As PB2 is just a powder, did you add a little Water to bind all the dry ingredients together? And good job on six miles!

When I heard about runs at Disney, I thought what can get better than that! That would be so much fun to run through frontier land, tomorrow land, etc. there is so many imaginative detail to look at to take our minds off the running. If that is the case, I'm going for one of those runs in the future.

I don't make them. I buy them from nuts.com. I buy the chocolate paradise energy squares but they several flavors. I eat 1-2 oz with the PB2 (mixed) spread on top. I resisted eating these for a while, but decided on runs longer than 3 miles I would have them with the PB2 right before.....and I feel great when I do.....no bonking. 3 miles or less I don't need them.

Here's the ingredients....

Organic Honey, Organic sunflower seeds, Organic sesame seeds, Organic Chocolate chips, Organic Sugar(evaporated cane juice), Organic Chocolate liquor, Organic Cocoa Butter, Soy Lecithin,[An Emulsifier Without gmo], Organic Vanilla), Gmo Free Organic Tofu Powder, Organic apricots(May contain rice flour), Organic Cashews, Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic pumpkin Seeds, Natural Flavors(gluten free, msg free).

Excellent suggestion for us to try also. The sound so good and full of energy. Would it matter if we ate these after the first 3 miles or not? Sort of like how long distance runners eat their gels at certain points in a race to refuel.

We need to all plan to meet up one day and do a fun team run. We need to find a really good one in a great location to make it worth traveling. Team VST.

I was planning on stashing a few in my pocket for the half marathon. They are small, like the size of dice. 2 squares is about one serving.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
