Pcos/period Advice!

Recommended Posts

Hey Ladies,

So I have had PCOS for about 10 years... I haven't had a period in about that long..the only time i would get one is when my dr would have me take progesterone to force on on. But it wasn't a regular one on my own. I am a little over 2 1/2 months out and Monday I got my first real period on my own... this probably explains the sever moodiness the past few weeks that I couldn't figure out before. The last time I dealt with this was long I forgot what it was like. My only problem and question is how horribly bad it is! I know this is going to be TMI so i apologize ahead of time. I have to change my tampon less than once an hour.. and I"m using the strongest they come in.. I am even extra protecting and wearing a pad.. and am thankful cause its that bad. My boobs had been so sore to the touch the past week that even wearing a bra was uncomfortable. That has now passed.

I am having such bad cramps and can't do anything becuase I don't want to be too far from home or the bathroom...

My question is I know this is becuase of the PCOS and my body adjusting to being normal again. Does it get any better after a few cycles? I can't even remember what my periods were like when I use to get them, I know they were not this bad..

I called my Dr and they said there isn't anything they can do for me..I'm just so weak and worried about losing too much blood.

Any advice from fellow PCOS er's or non that have eperienced this would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a lost.. my husband obviously can't understand and I feel bad that I have banned him from our bathroom and he has to use the guest one for now. LoL.

I don't have PCOS and I haven't but I used to have EVIL periods when I had my copper IUD so here's my advice for what it's worth :) . For the cramping - a heating pad is your best friend! I always felt like there was an evil gnome stabbing me in the uterus and heavy heat on my abdomen always helped. I also didn't mess with tampons because (1) they did nothing for catching my heavy flow and (2) I always felt like my cramps were worse when they were in. I use Always Inifinity and I swear I love those things... If you think it's too heavy for that, there's nothing wrong with trying Tena or Depends pads - they're made to catch heavier/faster flow (urine) and after a year long bad period of cough variant asthma testing my bladder, I can tell you they really do work. Good luck and periods do get better... your's is probably just wonky since it was out of commission for so long... and even when they don't you learn better of how to manage them. Hugs.

THanks, I acutally have been using those Always one as back up with tampons... I feel I can't jut use on or the other right now. i will have to look into some of the others you suggested.. Hoping it lets up at least a little bit soon! I wanted a period so bad.. and now I'm thinking what was I thinking LoL. I have to look at the good that comes out of this! Thanks again :)

I had very heavy periods with my pcos, and after several months of super heavy periods i ended up needing a blood transfusion and 6 months of weekly Iron transfusions after that. I had seen my doctor and told them that I was weak and dizzy and they just told me to take a multi Vitamin. If you think you are bleeding too much then demand a CBC to check your levels. I was told that if you are going through a pad or tampon in an hour, then it's too heavy. I was so miserable before and after dealing with those transfusions, so don't take no for an answer.

I do not have pcos but after surgery I had two periods like u are describing I didn't want to leave the house. They have improved a little since and get better more reg each time. Our bodies are going thru so much just need time to readjust pcos or not. It's like in basic training almost no one has a period the whole time because of what our bodies were put.thru

I've had pcos for @15 yrs now and had periods like you are explains that would last for months!!!!! Ive been thru 3 D&C's with the most recent 2 months prior to wls. With the most recent one I had an iud placed to help. I was also becoming anemic from losing so much blood. Go to your obgyn. They are the experts in this area. Don't be like me & wait till u need a blood transfer.

Thank you Tesla :) Mine only lasted about 5 days, it was super bad and i did speak with my OB and they said to call back if it lasts longer than 7 days so they can check my Iron level and my red blood cell count. Luckily it stopped after 5 days.. I am now waiting to see if I get it on time next month and how it is.. being that it's been a good 10 years since my body has been going through this my OB said that this may happen for the first few months until my body regulates again.. Thanks for the advice :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
