I am reading my Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies book, and it just mentioned a catheter. I am terrified of this as I have never had one before. Did you have one? Please explain your experience, I am freaking out a little.

Yes I had one. They put it in once I was under. It wasn't bad at all. When they took it out it didn't hurt there was just pressure.

They are nothing to be terrified about. I would call them an invasive necessity. Not something I would consider recreation, though.

Well if your lucky they'll put it in while your asleep. I had one one before having my c-section and WOW it hurt. Not a problem coming out but watch out for the dreaded urinary infection.

I had one in, and it was inserted while I was under general. I am thankful for it, as they were pumping 150cc an hr into me, which would have meant very frequent trips to the bathroom and no sleep,

I have had them and sometimes, repeat, sometimes, with some people they give you the sensation that you have to urinate but can't as the catheter is already doing that. So what you do is BEFORE- talk to your doctor and ask him/her to put in a order for the nurses to give you Phenazopyridine Hydrochloride or Azo which is the over the counter name for it. It works really fast and it basically stops the muscles and nerves from annoying you when you have the catheter in.

I did this and was told that my doctor rarely uses a catheter. So don't get yourself worked up about it. I have had a catheter 4 times with surgery. I never got a bladder infection from it. Plus remember, you are going to be on some pain meds, so you will be okay. Your mind set is a factor in this, so just be prepared( good that you are reading the book) and have a plan.

I was worried about the catheter but I can truly say that it was painless - absolutely no big deal. And I was grateful to have it because the anesthesia shut down everything. Do not worry about the catheter.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
