it sounds like acid reflux, does warm liquid get up your pipe some times ? They told me mine should some time go away after the surgery but I also read that you can get a temperary case post op for a while, some times short temperary some times long enough for a med to be used. They give me prilosec now pre op and I have been on many over years, its a capsule though, I am unsure what med they would offer you but it might also be if thats the case you won't be using it long term but only while you need it too, I read that too.

Most sleeved patients are given a prescription for an acid blocker after surgery.

You need to call you doctor, and since you had your surgery in MX ( so did I) if you were not given any type of acid blocker to take home, you can call your pcp and tell them you're having acid problems.

There are all sorts of OTC medications for this as well, but if you have insurance, this is usually a covered prescription. I take Protonix and I can't be without it.

I just had a scope into my stomach, and I am 3.5 yrs post op. The Dr. explained that our stomachs still make the same amount of acid as it did before 85% was removed.

thanks that you more clearified this Oregondaisy, Yes, my surgeon said we would have to use one and he said if you smoke and don't use one you'll achieve ulcers that I don't want. But a point also would be that they can upgrade you to a higher dose if you are on one too I am sure so make the call.

Yeah, Protonix is pretty great stuff. I was also told at my appointment (and I never knew this) that you're supposed to take it and wait 30 min before eating. I always took it with Breakfast. I am changing that now. The doctor said it would work way better if I took it 30 min before breakfast.

Thats cool ahh2bm3, I am pre op until Tuesday, they told me buy my own pepcid complete and use it twice a day, well this post has me thinking and I'll be sure to get a script too after a while. I have some ideas for hunger post op but not yet there to say what I am able to use, I think an herbal liquid or powder surpressant may be ok as long as its not a strong pill. Lots a luck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
