How Long Til You Got To 600-800 Calories/day?

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 weeks out and I didn't even get 400 calories today. Some days are better than others but I don't think I've even reached the 600 calories per day. I usually make my Protein or am just short. Obviously - I don't want to force it - if I'm full.

How long til most people were able to get to that 600 calories per day?

Everybody is different as far as time frames go. But as for now your first priority should be hydration then Protein after you can keep up on both of them you should be pretty close to your calorie goal. Considering that 80g of protein is going to have a minimum of 400 calories, and most typically will be closer ro 550-600 on liquids. Mushies and full foods will add even more calories to your diet.

I personally never experience any liquid restriction so calories, protein, & hydration have never been an issue for me.

Don't worry about getting "enough" calories yet. It'll come as your body is ready for it.

I don't see how anyone gets under 600 with getting all your Protein in. I'm 3 weeks out and am at 600-700 calories a day. That's with eating high protein food and milk and I still only get about 60-70 g of protein.

The first 3 - 4 months I had two Protein Shakes a day. I used powder that was around 125 calories per serving and 24 grams of Protein. I also used rtd premier shakes that have 160 calories and 30 grams of protein. That is half of your calories for the day if you are aiming for 600. I am now 7 months out and have cut back to just one shake a day. I watch my carbs (under 20) so I basically eat meat, cheese, eggs for a meal. If I am still lacking calories for the day I add a cheese stick or something like that. Hope that helps.

nectar Proteins deliver 20g+ protein in 100cal, thats 80g in 400 calories, lso Premier Protein delivers 30g in 160cal that's 90g in 480 calories.

I will say its nearly impossible on anything but a liquid diet.

Not everyone is the same. I can eat about half an egg. Maybe an ounce of chicken or tuna at a time. I can't do the shakes and I developed the lactose intolerance. I still don't get in all my protein and fight everyday to get in fluids. I'm still drinking Gatorade to keep from getting dehydrated again. Good for you that your doing so well! Count your blessings because not everyone is like you.

How far out are you? I'm on pureed stage and have a soy Protein Powder I bought at target. It has a slight wheat flavor and I usually add a scoop to everything I puree. If you add spices you can't really taste it. I don't have a nut, so I hope I'm not taking in too many calories too soon. My struggle is getting in the Protein without over doing it on calories. It's really hard when we can only eat such small amounts to get the protein from food.

I'm 6 wks out. I was instructed to focus in getting in all my liquids before being concerned about protein. I've tried the soy and it doesn't do wonders for my stomach. An average day for me is 20oz bottle of Gatorade, about 1/2-3/4 bottle of Vitamin Water zero, half an egg, half a slice of deli turkey, and a small (maybe an oz) if chicken. I've tried eating more often but then I don't get fluids in. I'm tired a lot and try to keep myself from napping so I can push fluids. I spent post op week 3 in the hospital along with being nauseated and dehydrated I had a uti and kidney stones. With everything I've battled, breaking the mindset if the addiction has been the hardest. I also have 5 meds u take in the am, 2 in afternoon, and 5 in pm. I don't think that's helping my intake any. I just dunno! I see GI for a follow up Thursday. I live in TX and had my surgery in FL where I'm from and there are no bariatric surgeons in my area. Sorry, I'm venting a little!

Change your Protein to slim fast shakes, they have 230 calories each 325ml bottle. It also helps with getting in fluids as depending on what you eat, you need 3 or 4 to get in enough Protein. Xxx

At 5 months post-op I'm still only averaging between 650 and 700 calories a day, including at least 90 grams of Protein. It is very possible to get that much protein and eat fewer than 600 calories a day...I did it for several months. It's all about the food choices you make. I eat no starchy carbs, and only lean protein...those two choices keep my calories very low.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
