I was sleeved on Nov. 14th, and I've lost a total of 24 pounds, I lost about 10 before going in. Well I'm really really upset, I know I'm doing well, but I'm starting the HATE the shakes, and soft / Clear liquids. Makes me sick to think of it. I also read a blog that said that you will never eat real food and when you do you'll be sick, and it takes 1-2 years before you can eat solids. Ok if I knew this I would NEVER have done this...

I know I was 100% for this going in, but now i'm just so depressed thinking that I'll never eat real food ever again. I just thought I would never eat large portions but very very small portions of food. I was told by someone that she eats everything, but just in very small portions and she's lost 100 pounds. I don't know what to think anymore, I'm MOURNING food like you cant believe and I'm so sad.

It's not the huge amount I miss, it is just the food the flavor, and texture I miss. I so badly want to eat a small piece of bread, or a piece of chicken or fish.....Maybe this was a mistake, but there is no turning back now.

Has anyone gone through this, will i get over it? :-(

Rhonda

I'm sure you'll be inundated soon with denials to what you read, RMC. I've been going to a support group for bariatric patients (even though my own surgery isn't for another 10 days) and we ocassionally have pot lucks, and it's really wonderful to see how everybody eats a small little portion of several different things, including chile, casseroles, pumpkin bread, etc. Whatever you read, it was WAY WRONG. Make a smiley face and be happy! The worst thing you might have to face is that a few people seem to develop an intolerance to dairy products, or something like that. (I'm hoping I do, because I just love cheese and ice cream too dang much!)

I'm not your doctor or nutritionist, but I'd guess that you will probably start on creamy Soups pretty soon, including Tomato -- yumm.

And congratulations on your 24 pound loss!

I was sleeved on the 14th too. I was allowed to start yogart, Soups, puddings and cottage cheese. I have spoken to and also have 2 friends were sleeved. One was 56th months ago and she is eating regular food, small amounts. My other friend was sleeved over a year ago and she is also eating and tolerating small portions of regular food.

Only lost 4 lbs. My doctor told me its not uncommon due to all the IV fluids.. I sure hope so. I have been so disappointed since then.. I cannot give up....

I think there are people who have had various WLS types that have an all or nothing approach and they feel the need to restrict themselves in order to be successful. That is what works for them. But you are not them, and if you make up your mind to eat just a little bit of the foods you like, you can be successful. You have to find something that works for you so you can be successful.

That being said, this stage is only temporary, yes you can eat real food, just not a lot of it. I had the same stage of mourning food, and I think about it sometimes, how I used to just overdo it. It was comforting in the moment, but long term it wasn't. I just remind myself of that.

You can do it - stay strong!

there are people who have complications that can't eat normally - very uncommon - but a few stories about stomach twists or strictures causing these sorts of problems.

for the vast majority of u, but a few months out we have no food restrictions and whatever you were reading was not a broad representation of the situation AT ALL.

I am 11 months out and can eat ANYTHING except I don't tolerate spicy food as well as I used to. Even so, I can eat normal spicy, just not HOT spicy.

to some extent, those first 1-2 months are a bit of griting your teeth and just living through it... after that it gets alot better.

As of this morning, I am down 125# and have my life back so I surely don't regret it!

Thank you all, and thank God for this website! I'm so happy to read the things you All wrote above. I don't think the Nausea helps either it comes and goes, and all I can think is what if it never goes away. I look forward of what's down the road to come and get over this hump. ;) I will be strong

I was sleeved 11/8 and I totally know how you are feeling! It is soooo frustrating not to get a bowl full of food and eat it. Everyday I tell myself this is just temporary and I will live through this so I can live a more healthy and happy life in the long run.

Just get through one day at a time and retry soon you'll be saying to yourself, 'ooh I am so glad I can eat this'!

I was sleeved on Nov 7th. So far I'm down 30! I don't feel it but I am.

I'm confused. I know docs have different guidelines, but my list shows this week I can have egg whites and 2 oz of ground meat.

Is anyone allowed to do this?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
