Alone Before Surgery...

Recommended Posts

Will I be ok of I am alone before surgery? My scheduled one is 1pm and my husband can be there for an hour and a half and maybe a little more from 11:30-1ish and then will be there after I get out and spend the evening with me before gettigte kiddos...but if the surgery runs late I'll be alone. I am a pretty independent person and one of faith so bein alone doesn't scare me as much as how do I get my bag in my room? And other logistical issues that are starting to pop I my head...what dovyou all think? Anything else I am missing?? Thanks!

Leave your bag with your husband to bring in later - you won't need it right away. They will have you put whatever your wearing, shoes, etc. in a plastic bag and ask you to place it at the bottom of the gurney so it travels with you. That's how they handle it here...

You'll be fine. Typically you go into pre-op at least an hour before your surgery and I don't know about your hospital, but mine didn't allow anybody back there with me. It was there that I changed into the hospital gown and all my stuff went into a bag which was attached to the gurney (obviously don't bring jewelry or valuables). If they don't do that you could ask them to take it out to your husband. As for after surgery, frankly you're probably not going to care if he's there or not. It takes several hours for the anesthesia to wear off (you'll be in post-op for awhile while this happens before they take you to your room) and you're going to be on painkillers and thus probably sleeping or talking to imaginary people (apparently I totally did that). If you need anything thats what the nurses are for. Trust me, you'll be so irritated with them coming and checking your vitals every hour that you'll enjoy the peace and quiet to just sleep without feeling like you have to entertain someone! Good luck with your surgery!

I did my entire surgery; before/during/after/post-op care/etc. completely alone. I was fine. You will be completely fine until your hubby comes around.

My coach has to work that day so I said drop me off "whenever" and I'll keep myself entertained. As long as I have my phone charged and can access this site, I'll be fine. All the support here will keep me busy. If there's a delay getting you into pre-op, bring something light to read if you don't have a smart phone, or go look at the newborns, that always makes me smile.

You'll be just fine. I got dropped off at the hospital and went through it by myself with no problem whatsoever. When it was release time, my son came and picked me up.

At home, I took care of myself as well. Of course I had no complications and felt pretty good!

My hubby was there waiting while I had surgery, so he got to talk to the surgeon afterwards, but otherwise I was oblivious. I actually had to really encourage him and my son to go home - I was tired at needed to rest! :)

You will do great - wishing you good luck!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
