Hi Mazie,

Thanks for asking. :D

I'm 13 days post op now. The incisions are healing well,

I had my gall bladder out also, so I have 7.

Glad that the liquid stage is over and I can eat some. My first fill is Oct 11th.

My tummy is sore tonite, not sure why.

Tabitha said she got to meet you......how are you liking the treadmill?!

I wish I had room for one but we have downsized our lives and can't spare a square, as Elaine would say!

I would love to know how your experience has been. I really want to get on with it her am looking into Dr. Edwards for my surgery in Springfield. I am going to have to call in the morning to see if I can get in without the meeting, as I missed it tonight. I was so disappointed that I could not get there, and my husband could not find the correct room, so we both could not hook up after waiting a month.

Thanks all missourians for posting. I have been wondering where the MOs were! Glad to be here!

Hey PC.....

Nice to meet you. Dr. Edwards public forum is very informational and you will be glad you went. It does last quite a long time depending on how many people are there asking questions. Bring some Water or beverage since they don't offer anything. I've been to 2 of them (different docs) and was so hungry during both......so make sure your tummy is not completely empty like mine was!

I was banded on August 31st by Dr. Edwards. There are several of his patients that visit this board so feel free to ask questions, 'k?! Will do my best to help..........
I have gone elsewhere as things did not work out with Springfield doc. Just too many hoops for me with St. John's system.
I have decided to go to Overland Park, up north, and have spoken with the surgeon and staff -- what a difference in all of my contacts. Not to put Springfield down -- I love it, but my experience has been much better and more responsive with the private center.
Thanks for your encouragement -- I plan to be back to connect with Missouri folks in my area. I know I will need the support.

PCGIRL... I think Dr.Edwards is terrific. May I ask what exactly made you choose to go elsewhere? I have always been interested in the good, and not so good about people involved with my health care. Are there issues at his office that may cause me to think differently about recieving care from them as a team or individuals?

Is you "new" doc going to provide your aftercare?

Good luck, and I am looking forward to getting new information. Keep us posted on your journey!!!

Hi, Maziemommy. Love your name. I have a date of October 23! I'm very excited. I am reading over all of the info I got from the doc and the center and am looking forward to getting ready for the procedure. He wants me to lose a few pounds before surgery so that my liver is not so loaded with fat around it. I have begun a plan and have started journaling for myself -- my thoughts and plan of action. So I am off! Very Cool.

The plan does include one year follow-up in Springfield. And I can travel to KS if needed.

I will continue to check on this forum as it is nice to find Springfielders readily available.

Thanks for you support now and forever! This is a really positive thing for me!

Hello I am in springfield. Insurance would not cover the surgery so I went to Tijuana Mexico. I had the surgery on Sept 28th and have lost 18 lbs. Dr Kuri and his team was great. I know your thinking mexico no way but hospital was extremely nice private room. I would do it again in a heart beat. Looking forward to chatting and losing weight with you all.

Welcome Anita! There are many posters on this forum with great experiences being banded in Mexico. Your Dr. is named often as a good one, too. Will you be getting aftercare/fills with Dr. Edwards?

I talked to my regular doctor today about the surgery. He suggested Dr. Edwards. I haven't called the office yet. I want to do more research from people who have had it done and their experiences. I am glad to find this website and read the successes.

I have a couple questions. I am 60+ lbs overweight. Is there a percentage you have to be overweight?

It will be self pay if I do the surgery, how much is it?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
