My family is 1/2 supportive. I have my hubby, mom and grandmother pro sleeve, and everyone else con. What's funny is the first people to point out I'm fat all the time are the people against me getting the surgery. I have 21 days till I get it done. Its at Good Shepard Hospital in Barrington, IL. I'm 31, about 247lbs and 5'8". I also have three kids, ages 2,2, and 1. I would like to blame them for my weight gain but it's my fault. I'd like to be 155lbs. I'm starting to get really nervous about Dec 3rd. I'm worried that it will hurt, that I'll have all this extra skin and what if I get this done and it doesnt work. I'm glad I found this so I can read what others are posting so I don't feel so alone.

Heh... You've had three kids.. This surgery should be a piece of cake! Except for the restriction for lifting any weight (ie:kids) I think you'll be surprised how easy this will be.

I can't agree more! How is everyone's family reacting to the surgery? Are they supportive' date=' concerned, pessimistic?

I haven't told my family yet....my husband and close friends are supportive but many other family members are not aware of my surgery. I'm hoping to have dropped some weight by Christmas.

I'm so excited to see the looks on their faces this time NEXT year! I hope to have lost 100lbs by then..... I know it will take a lot of hard work, but I'm so ready to change my life and start eating to live!!!

Really curious about how everyone's friends and family are reacting to your surgery!![/quote']

My husband, sister and brother are very supportive. My mom is terrified and I don't know how to reassure her.

Tell your mom the surgery has a mortality rate that is less than gallbladder surgery!

With my parents, I focused on how this will help my overall physical health. Arthritis in my knees, acid reflux, thryroid issues, etc.

I just told my last immediate family member last night. Every one has been amazing and has been offering to help etc. I was so scared to tell them all but my siblings, parents and close friends have all been great. I'm so blessed.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
