November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

so I was supposed to have my first fill today. I was really looking forward to it and the doctor has the flu & cancelled. I have a new appointment for Monday. Boy, it seems from reading all your posts that there is a big difference after the fill. I can eat just about anything tho I do get full faster. However, stopping when full is a matter of pure will power. I was worried because I expected more restricition. It sounds like I will get that with the fill.

Hey does anyone notice this....when I over eat my stomach gets really hard and it seems to take a long time to digest. I feel really full for hours & hours!

I feel the same as you! Last night I was full full full and it up around my breast I hurt hurt hurt. It is hard to tell when your full..if your regular stomach is hungry. I think I am going to start drinking a Protein Drink to fill up the lower part before I eat food food.

Be careful with the protein drink and then eating. Protein Drinks are typically low in calories so you're getting more calories. Drink Water (or no-cal drinks) for the "fill". Be careful, though. If you drink it too close to your meal, it's going to remain in your pouch and flush the real food through quicker and you'll end up being hungry faster.

I think you meant to say HIGH in calories. Figure a shake has about 200 calories. I wouldn't want to drink that and then eat for sure!

Thanks, Marni. You're right. I meant to say HIGH in calories. I started to lose weight when I stopped drinking Protein Shakes. I rarely eat a meal that is 200 calories yet a shake often is that or more. And I often don't feel full after a shake. I still do drink one every now and then, but tried to be careful. It's certainly a balancing act between getting enough Protein, feeling full and not getting too many calories.

I still can't believe i am in onederland!!! I am driving to California and have not been able to eat much today...supplemented with a Protein Shake 100cals. Brooksie make sure you are eating enough Protein, that will keep you feeling satisfied.

I am down to 197!! Right now I am in a little town not far from El Paso, Texas... good to be resting... I will try to exercise a bit tonight, inside my hotel room.

I'm going to catch up on this thread later. But, I just wanted to let you know that I've finally made it to bandland!

Thanks for all of your support over the course of the past several months. My surgeon said I did really well, and the nurses in the recovery room said I was the best they'd had. LOL...glad to hear it. Especially since I spent more time then average there because they had run out of rooms for several of us. And since I had a good view of the board, my name was at the top.

Well, I made it through the holidays without a problem and lost weight. Today, though, was another story. I'm not sure whether it's the weather (cold and damp) or what, but my rheumatoid arthritis decided to act up this past week. I talked to the rheumatologist and she said to take my pain pills and prednisone. (Can't take NSAIDS.) The prednisone is what originally put me into diabetes but rather than gaining weight, I lost 80 pounds in 6 months because my blood sugar was 500+. I was taking 60 mg. daily for over a year and now take only 5 mg. when I need it but it does increase my appetite.

I've tried to make good food choices today but even healthy foods have calories. I seem to eat every two hours all day today. I hoped to go into work today to make up some time I called off this week but they ended up not needing me so I ate, and ate, and ate. I ate small servings each time so never felt overly full, but seem to eat all day long. The stack of dirty dishes is quite sizable! (Where's my maid when I need one?) I normally weigh myself at work on Monday but think I'm glad it's a holiday and the nurse's office won't be open. Need to get to the fitness center for sure!

Hopefully the RA will go back in remission so I can get off the prednisone. It's a nasty, nasty drug but is often the difference in walking or not for me so it's a necessary evil. The RA is one of the biggest reasons I wanted the band so that I'd have less wear and tear on the joints. I've been good most of the time so hopefully my grazing today hasn't had too much of a negative impact.

Tom

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
