Hi,

If anyone would like to keep in touch with me for moral support. I am basically on my own here. I am a single mother of a teenager and also living and caring for my elderly father. I don't have many people to help me. I have good friends that are supportive but few can really relate to what this surgery means to me.

I will have my surgery on October 29th. I am on my third day of my liquid diet. So far so good. I am using Fitness Pal to keep track of calories, Protein, and fat each day. I have been a bit hungry, especially when I smell food or see something on tv or in a magazine. The shakes help fill me up at least for a while. I don't like the bitter aftertaste though.

I remember reading somewhere what I need to take to the hospital with me. I can't find it now. Can anyone give me an idea of the most important things I'll need to pack?

The doctor expects me to be discharged on the 31st in the morning. I hope so because there will be chaos in my home without me. LOL

I am a little nervous but very excited. My goal is to lose about 95-100 pounds.

Anyone who'd like to talk, I'm here!

Maribel

Hi Maribel!

You came to the right place for support. Even though I am blessed with a great group of people around me, there is nothing quite like a group of people who know exactly what you are going through.

Here is a link to the "what you need for surgery" post.

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/10081-the-official-what-you-will-need-for-your-gastric-sleeve-surgery-thread/

I have found this site to be a god-send and know as my surgery gets closer, I will look to it more and more.

Good luck!!

Thank You! I had my pre-admission testing today. Next step is medical clearance from my PCP and that will be next week. It's day 4 of my liwuid diet and I have to say, I'm feeling easily tired and worn out. I think I lost weight already. I will make sure when I visit my PCP. I have a lot to do but I need a nap first, lol.

Hi Maribel,

I was just sleeved on the 15th. I packed my Nook (never used it). I packed pj bottoms and didn't need them. I had my phone but I didn't use it until right before I was discharged on Tuesday afternoon. One thing I highly recommend is Chapstick. I definitely used it. I was so nausea when I awoke I really didn't care about anything. I slept and walked.

Good luck.

Hello,

We are neigbors!! i am in Brooklyn, near City Line. I was sleeved on Oct 2. And I am 3 weeks out. I am here for you if you have any questions. As far as what i brougt to the hospital... lets see, just the clothes on my back and my phone. The hospital provided everything else, even my toothbrush. I didnt need chapstick the nurses had mouth swaps for me that kept my mouth moist so i didnt get to the point of chapped lips. Good luck!!!

Went to my PCP today for the final paperwork stage, my medical clearance. It's done! I'm down 8 pounds since the start of my liquid diet which was last Monday, the 15th. I'm excited! Little nervous about the anesthesia because I did take a little longer to be up after a previous surgery I had. I did tell the doctor and anesthesiologist about so hopefully it'll all go smoothly this time.

Thanks. I was called in to show up on Mon. 8:30 am and hopefully it won't be cancelled because of the storm. If I don't get a call by Sunday. I'm good to go. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
