Hair Loss After Surgery

Recommended Posts

Even though I don't have dandruff, I'll give our product a go. I looked on Drugstore if I could buy online but they no longer ship to Australia :(

It will stop and eventually I hope the hair is even better than before. It's like survival of the fittest. All the weak hair is what sheds . :)

I must have a lot of weak hair!!

I'm trying to hold on. I'm in the heavy shedding stages... and doing all I can do. Every suggestion.. I don't care if its in vain. I have to try. And I figure that if nothing else, maybe it will grow in the best new hair ... better than before. I had hair down to nearly my waist, and as soon as I noticed a little bit of shedding last month, I went and had it cut to my shoulders (like in my avatar pic). I'm considering cutting it it again now that I'm in the super heavy loss stages because its already grown about an inch and half... my hair has always grown fast. I hope that works in my favor... becasue right now the top of my head is sooooooo thin. I cried about last time I washed my hair I was just so overwhelmed. :(

Also, I have a question for all of you that have already gone through the scary hairloss stage. I know it seems to typically last 3 months for most folks. Is that 3 months of scary Hair loss? Or just when you started noticing heavier than normal hair loss?

My Hair loss started about at month 3 and seems to be over at 3 weeks. Knock on wood. I typically eat 120+ grams Protein a day and didn't take any special supplement for hair loss like Biotin. I do take quite a mountain of Vitamins daily.

I'm taking lots of Vitamins now, mostly all related to my hairloss. Last night when I washed my hair, I still lost a lot, but, less than I have been, so I'm hoping... praying... I'm reaching the end soon.

It will stop. I started having dramatic Hair loss at 2.5 months post op. I am now 5.5 months out and it is starting to grow back in and hair loss is decreasing. This is exactly what my surgeon said would happen. He said hair loss would start around month 3 and should stop by post op month 6. He said there is absolutely nothing you can take or do to prevent it, but I still tried everything. He said hair loss past 6 months out could indicate a deficiency of sorts, but it doesn't look like I will have to worry about that. It will grow back.

I'm still losing but I don't think it seems to be as much as it was. I'm taking 2 lots of supplements.

I'm going to see a trichologist next Friday (2 Nov) for an opinion.

@Fiddleman I am 3 months out and just started losing my hair. I was in tears. Dozens and dozens of strands at a time. Seems as if you are getting a ton of Protein. How are you getting all of that in a day? On a good day I can only scrape down 60grams. I can also only take in about 500-600 cal a day.

I am losing more hair as well and I am 4 months out. My doctor said it will stop around the 9 month mark and that it is vitally important to keep up my Protein and Water amounts. 90g and 80-100 foz respectivley. He said that will help to keep the hair healthy and provide the nutrients necessary to stay healthy during the rapid weightloss period.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
