Are you taking anything for reflux, and if so are you sure it is working? Are you getting all you protein in? Are you drinking plenty of fluids - thirst and hunger can be easily confused. And what are you eating 4 ozs of? That sounds like quite a bit, but it is far different if it is soup than if it is chicken. If you are having liquids or mushies it is not uncommon not to feel full - people usually notice a big difference with solids. If you are eating 4 ozs of lean meat at once already you might want to back down a bit, just my opinion but its an awful lot of chicken (for example) at your stage. (My doctor progressed my diet early, so i wanted to address both mushies and solids...). An are you eating carbs? If so try cutting back - carbs tend to create hunger more than they control it - but that's just me. I like to stick to 20-30 grams of carbs per day - not everyone does low carb though. Are you tracking your calories, protein, carbs, and fat intake? If not, consider it. MyFitnessPal is available on smartphones or on the computer and is excellent for tracking your consumption. Hope you find something helpful in this list!

Me to Jen, I actually gained 4lbs in three days after starting soft foods :( I was so bummed since I am only 10 days out. I track EVERYTHING now on myfitnesspal.com. Seriously sucks. I really hope things get better with you. Maybe since we are so new we are having more head hunger than anything but hopefully we will adjust quickly!

I have no idea what's going on but I'm less than a week out and going through the same thing. It's torture and I can only hope it gets better.

P.S. Are you drinking protein shakes? Mine still havent arrived (mail order). I wonder if the protein shakes helps with fullness? Also I dont know how many calories a day I should be comsuming at two weeks, its nowhere in the packet they gave me. I read people eat around 600 so I have been trying to stay around there but who knows!?!

I found that i can only eat about 1-2 oz of solid protein and about 1/4 cup veggies at a time. Then i am not hungry for about 4 hrs or more. If i make a protein shake I get hungry in about 1/2 hr. Anything that I eat that have carbs (like crackers) I want more of it. I think that is a slider food because a can eat 2-3 handfuls of cheez it. I decided not to buy that stuff anymore because I can chew it well and eat a lot of it. I have not hit a stall yet but my weight loss is very slow. I have only lost 10 since surgery.

actually no, I am not taking anything for the reflux... I did take pepcid once, but I dont feel hurt burn or reflux. I can eat 2 oz of cottage cheese then I want to eat again. today I ate some shrimp, for dinner. and got full right away after like 3 shrimps but then half hour later I had like 5 more no problems but now is been like 1hr and still want to eat again. U are right, I am not drinking enough Water, but I dont feel thirsty. I am staying away from the carbs. I am tracking what I eat, eating less than 500 cal. protein about 48-60 with shakes. I am on MFP.

I am taking your advice very serious and will drink more water.. hoping that it will help.

I drink protein shake in the morning, nectar chocolate. in the morning I do feel full but for me is at night that I get hungry. I dont drink the shakes at night though... :( maybe I should... Is just I am tired of the shakes.. but let try again.. hope that will this hunger.

You should be on something like Prevacid for the reflux your tummy can have. My understanding of it is that even though your stomach is 75-85% smaller, for a while it still produces the same amount of acid as it did before, and that is why doctors want you on a daily PPI. If you aren't taking one, you also may feel hungry, from what I understand.

is pepcid ok? does it have to be prevacid? my doc never mentioned this.. but I will try it.

You can try the Pepcid it should work and cost less get the store brand it is cheaper and is the same as name brand

It does sound like part of this may be head hunger - what do you think?

You may not feel the reflux but i have heard that people don't experience it as reflux but as a feeling of hunger. I take Prevacid and it works for me, but there are many, many options - this may be worth a try as it is a very common post-op issue. I don't know if you would see the results after just one dose or if it would take a few days to show if it helped. Perhaps speak to your doc about this issue, too. He/She would likely have an opinion and might even prescribe an acid reducer.

Yes. Water, water, water. I never feel thirsty... But I feel very very hungry if I don't stay on top of my fluids. At 5 months out I get 9-10 glasses per day.

I aim for 600-800 calories daily, but it took me a couple months to get there. And your Protein sounds low compared to what I've heard you should aim for... turns out every doc is different though so it may be that you are in the recommended range for your doc.

Good luck!
