April 2006 Bandits October Challenge

OK April Bandits, here we go, it's OCTOBER!

This month's challenge is as follows:

(1) Complete at least 17 workouts that are 35 minutes in duration or longer.

(2) For one or more of your workouts, try something (anything!) new that takes you out of your exercise comfort zone (A new class? Why not fencing! :fencing:Or boxing? :boxing:Go for a walk in the rain? :rain: Sign up for your first race? :P). Report back to us on what new activity you tried.

We can do it! The holidays are around the corner -- sign up for the challenge and meet your goals! Woohoo!!

I spent 40 minutes on the elliptical (?) It was not as fun as running on the track! I don't want to count it as my "new" exercise because I have done it before. Where can I find a wave machine?

Hi all-a quick note, I am home to shower and return to the hospital. My DH is in critical condition in the ICU. He tore his esophagus from part of the stomach and with the blood thinners he has been on since his heart surgery, they did not give us much hope, they had me bring in the family. He has pulled through so far. This happened on Sat. evening. He is still on a ventilator, but the balloons they used to stop the bleed have been removed, and no new bleeding has begun. He has been given over 25 units of blood and countless plasma. He is not out of the woods yet. My world is in shambles. I ask for your prayers. I love this man heart and soul...and cannot face the thoughts that crowd me in the dark. Please keep him in your prayers. I will update you when I can.

Kat

Oh my dear Kat, I am so very sorry to hear of your husband's medical crisis. I will hold you close in my thoughts and keep your husband in my prayers for healing. Thank you for taking the time to let us know what is going on. Please know that you have friends here to offer you support.

Dear Kat,

How are you doing this? I echo Bluehill and I will pray for you and your husband. He must be strong to have pulled through heart surgery and to now fight this!

I am so sorry. If our little exercise group can be of any comfort to you, please check in. You have our support and our concern.

Dear Kat,

Im so sorry for what happened to your husband. I will keep him in my prayers.

Oh Kat, that's just horrible. We're all thinking of you and praying for your husband's recovery. Please let us know if there's anything we can do. That's not a platitude. Seriously -- what can we do?

Just got the news Kat. I am so sorry that your family is going through this most stressful time. Please know that my thoughts and prayers go out for your husband's recovery and to strengthen you throughout this ordeal. Please, when you have time, let us know how your both doing.

I just wanted to share that I met a personal goal tonight!

I started actually running (with a super-duper jog bra) mid-September when I joined the challenge. I could only run about 1/8 mile before I needed to walk a bit. It has become much easier and enjoyable as I have stuck with it and pushed myself.

Tonight I jogged three miles in 36 minutes!!! (Three miles was my goal, but didn't expect to get there so fast.)

After I finished, I had planned to go home, but thought of Kat's situation. So, Kat...I ran another 1/2 mile for you. I hope your husband is getting stronger and healing. Hugs and prayers!

Boo, that was a fantastic NSV.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: 3.5 miles in 36 mins? You must have wings on your feet girl! :biggrin1: Keep up the good work.

You ROCK Boo! Way to go.

I'd love more info on the brand of sports bra you've found to be helpful. I find that when I run (one minute at a time -- I'm a little behind you in cardio strenght!), I have to hold the tail of my t-shirt to keep the girls from taking flight.

My "new" type of exercise - I tried a cardio workout and I finished up with weights. I was sweating up a storm!! 40 mins total

Roberta

I couldn't run until I got under 180 for starters. (When I shrunk out of DD). Not only was it too hard on my bustline, but my knees hurt. So the drop in weight is a HUGE help!

I still could not run well if I didn't have this bra. I wear my underwire, then a double-layer jog bra over it which is tight. The first layer comes down pretty low and has mesh and thick elastic. It is called "Bra Topper" by Lilyette. The only down side is that I have to adjust it sometimes so it doesn't bother my port.

Running is so freeing!!
