Post Op Octosleevers 2012. Welcome To The Losers Bench!

Recommended Posts

I am 20 days out today and feeling mostly normal. Struggling to get in more than 500 calories a day. My dr's office's plan is centered around the shakes. Of course I cannot stand them, but still get plenty of protien in. Haven't lost a ton of weight post-op but my pants are looser and my dresses are longer (less badonk to go over). I found out that tomatoes make me feel ill, otherwise the mushies phase is going well.

Anyone going through the early hard bits, it gets better really fast. Hang in there Octosleevers!

Hey fellow losers! Today was a good day. 1st post-op appt with Doc. I asked them not to tell me my weight today because I didn't want to be discouraged if it was a low loss amount. They obliged but were kind enough to say that I'm doing great & right on schedule. Whew!! I am going to TRY to wait until my 6-week follow-up appt before finding out my loss amount. I just don't want my emotions to be ruled by a scale number.

Also, because I'm doing so well with my Clear Liquids, my NUT said I could move into the thicker liquids 2 days sooner. Yay!! So I had (strained) New England Clam Chowder for lunch. YUMMY. & she said that means by this weekend I can move into puréed foods. Woohoo!

Good, good day. I hope all of my fellow Octo-losers are having as great of a day. :-)

6 days out here and finally decided to start posting:) I am doing ok I suppose, lots of acid and gurgling. My only real complaint is the large left incision site, it hurts pretty bad when my pain meds start to wear off. I know there are supposed to be some really tight sutures in there and that a lot of people have pain there but WOW it is not pleasant! I weighed myself today, I’m down 18 lbs-8 since surgery, 10 from the pre-op diet. I can tell when I put on my favorite pair of jeans:)

Ok I'm so tired of this I want to just eat a nice small meal I don't want to go to purée I'm ready for soft foods. I haven't had any pain no throwing up at all I go to my first post op appointment tomorrow I'm going to see if I can incorporate purée and soft foods together. Am I the only one feeling this way maybe I am just impatient and trying to rush this thing.

I am feeling the same way, I go to pureed foods tomorrow after my first post of appt. which is tomorrow. I cant wait, I havent had any problems with hot or cold or Protein Shakes. I just want real food. My doctor is so strict, I had to call and ask the NUT if I could start the Protein shakes, for some reason they dont allow them the first week. I am craving substance in my mouth something to chew!

I skipped the puree phase because it didn't sound appealing at all and I went straight to soft foods. I'm on regular foods now and I eat my Protein instead of drinking it. Protein Shakes go right through my sleeve and they don't fill me up for that long but when I eat protein I stay satified for a while.

Had surgery yesterday, doing GREAT! Hardly any pain at all, going home tonight. Will be on Clear liquids for a week, then full liquids for another week. So far so good....

Found out I have another co-morbidity, sleep apnea. That make three with the hypertension and diabetes. So glad I got the surgery now rather than later.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
