ABC ~ October Chat

Recommended Posts

Thanks Jahair Yeah Im still pretty excited about it LOL I cant believe they fit. I have a question about flying. I am going to Florida in a few weeks and never thought flying would be a problem. But now all of a sudden everyone keeps asking if I am allowed to fly. It sounds like an odd question to me, but now I am curious so I figured I'd ask. Their arent any restrictions on flying after the band are their. Also another one I was wondering is about riding roller coasters and other rides. If anyone has any answers let me know LOL

According to Dr. Ortiz' book, "Lapband for Life", flying is no problem due to the pressurized cabin. You also have to remember that many people banded in Mexico fly as soon as a day after surgery. I think you're fine, but call your surgeon if you are at all uncomfy.

ABC stands for the August Band Crew. It just gives us a chance to chat with people who are in roughly the same stage. It is a great group of people, and we're happy to help out newbies.

So are we posting whether or not we made our Sept goals??? And if we have new ones for Oct????

Well I went from 261-250 in Sept making my loss 11 lbs and my goal was 8.....whooo hoo!!!!!!!!!! My goal for Oct will be 10 lbs since I am having my fist fill tomorrow. So fly right butterfly!! All the way to 240!! :)

Way to go! You just flew all the past your goal. That is awesome. I don't know if everyone else is going to post their October goals, but I think it is a good idea.

My goal for September was to lose 10 lbs. I had a few setbacks, but I managed to make my goal. I'm setting the same goal for October. I want to have another 10 lbs. bite the dust.

I made my 10 pound goal for September in the nick of time. (September 30th to be exact...phew!!!) So I guess I'll go for another 10 pounds in October. I'm pretty sure my September goal was 10 pounds...I can't remember. (Most of my weight loss has been in brain cells, LOL!!!)

The ABC Rocks!!!!

Hey guys, I sucked with my eating today. chips, chicken, cake...family picnics are the worst for me! However, my awesome husband bought me a bike today! It's like on ol' timey cruiser type - but new with gears and stuff. So hopefully we can do some bike rides and that will balance oiyt my eating.

Question: (and I'm sure I could do a search for this but I'm being lazy) How long do you need to wait between fills...a few weeks? a month?

Okay I've been sitting here thinking about my goals. I then I thought about my current weight. Then my brain kinda went in neutral because I'm also watching the 2nd. Harry Potter movie.

I got out my calculator and did a little figuring. I'm only 36 lbs. away from One-derland. There are three months left until the New Year. 36 divided by three is 12. Does anyone see where I'm going with this?

Yep, that's right. I'm changing my October goal. My new goal is to lose 12 lbs. It's not impossible. Is it?

Ok my goal for September was 15lbs. I was down to 34lb weight loss and at my last visit on September 28th I was down to 48.5lb weight loss. So by my Dr's scale I lost 14.5lbs in September, just half a pound shy of my goal but then on September 30th I weighed myself and lost another 1.5lbs but I really dont count it until it's on my Dr's scale. LOL

My October goal will be to hit 60lb weight loss. I like setting my goal high something to reach for.

Good Luck ABC on your October goals!!!

My October goal is at least 10 pounds. Given that almost everything I eat gets stuck, so I don't eat much anymore, I don't think it will be a big problem :) I actually think if it doesn't start working itself out in the next week or two, I'm going to need to get a little unfilled.

I lost 15 in September. My short term goal is to lose 50 by Christmas!

My Sept. goal was 10 lbs and I lost 12. :clap2: I haven't lost anything in the past 2 weeks, which is why I am typing this from Hotel Lucerna waiting for my first fill with Dr. Ortiz tomorrow morning! I just got to the hotel a little bit ago and am waiting for my enchilada to finish cooking. YUMMMY! I'm starving and haven't eaten since this morning. I was hoping to see some other people here waiting for their surgery tomorrow, but all's quiet.

Anyways, my goal for Oct. is another 10 lbs.

My doctor told me to go on liquids for 5 days and then mushies for 5 days. No thanks! I just was just getting my metabolism somewhat back to normal. He said I could get another fill in 2 weeks if I needed one. How will I know if I am only just eating liquids and mushies for 12 days. So after 3 days I tried mushies and it was totally fine, no problem. So the next day I went to soft foods no problems. I don't feel any differently since my fill. I actually slowed my weight loss after surgery in the mushy stage and wasn't looking forward to being back at the stage and not losing. So far no problems, I'm still not getting near enough calories in a day to be healthy. That concerns me. I was very disciplined with my eating even though I had no restriction 2 weeks after my surgery. I limited myself to the cup of healthy food 3 times a day on will power alone. I haven't cheated at all. No soda, no bread, sweets, rice, etc. I lost 20 pounds in less than 6 weeks. I started at 200 pounds and now am at 180 at 5'6" with average bone size. My final goal weight will be 130. I hope to have 10 more pounds off for October goal. I am going to the bahamas for Christmas break and want to be at 150. I look great at that weight! I hope to be at final goal by March. I bought the weight loss consultant for doctor Phil's patients book, "Make over your metabolism" . Now I just have to get motivated to start working out consistently. This whole fill thing is wierd though. I don't really know what to expect. I know that I am dieting and doing everything so far by sheer will power. When I went in for my last doctor's appt. He took a look at my weight loss and said, "Wow, you make this look easy". I said, "Easy?" I've been dieting my ass off!" He said well not anymore that I've had my fill. But right now I stop myself from eating more not the band. But everything I read says how dangerous it is to go below 1200 calories and I know I am not coming close. How do you get all those calories in? Also not being able to poop is getting to be a real drag! It's pretty sad when you get teary-eyed after being able to go the bathroom. lol I wouldn't have any problem not taking in the calories if I was to drop weight like crazy, but it clearly states that it messes up your metabolism. I read about people on here all the time about not losing weight because of not eating enough calories. Sorry, I'm just battling with that whole thing right now. Also, I have been getting headaches I assume are brought on by not eating enough. If you can only have 1 cup of food total 3 times a day. That's suppose to be 400 calories a cup. Well do the math lean Protein for 3-4 ounces of chicken is like 120 cal and steamed veggies are only about 50. Where do the calories come from then. Your'e not suppose to snack or drink calorie filled drinks? I don't want to be in that starvation mode but in fact getting healthy and strong. It just doesn't feel right. I could eat more than a cup easliy, but they said it was stretch out my pouch. So I don't even though I'm still hungry. So if I'm not taking in enough food or calories now, even though I don't have restriction , then what would be the purpose of another fill. My sister in law had it done in Mar and she has had her last fill and is way too tight. But she says she is losing weight now even though she can barely get down liquid and throws up a lot. I am worried about her. I told her she was too tight. But she didn't lose for so long and now she's losing so she doesn't care about not keeping anything down. I just worry about the damage she is doing to herself and body. Thanks for lettle me ramble on here tonight. I read a lot of posts, but rarely post them myself.

My husband was a way a lot the last 3 weeks and he came home on Friday and coudn't keep his hands off of me. I sure did enjoy all the praise and attention. It was very genuine and he made me feel beautiful again. My BMI is now under 30 and I'm only considered "slightly overweight" according to those bmi calculators That feels so good. Having the word "Obese" besides your name really takes a reality toll on you. I didn't like that reality at all. My 14 size jeans are fitting loose and it too feels wonderful. I'm not ready to buy a new wardrobe just yet, but will definitely be looking into it soon.

Thanks for listening to me ramble.

Hi All, Congrats on all the hard work and great weight loss. I just had my first fill on Sept 28th, and could tell a difference right away with just swallowing Water, and I do think that I do have more resistence, but I know I can eat more than I am suppose to, I have read that sometimes it can take up to a week before you can really tell. I guess I will wait to see how this week goes before I schedule another fill.

My October goal is to loss atleast 10lbs....

My Dr. just released me to be able to join a gym I am very excited.

Hopefully that will really help with getting the weight off.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
