its official chicken do not go down well for me. and my lunch sucked big time. at work i had a baked thigh 2 tsp of rice because it was very crunchy gross, and the zuccini was bitter so i didnt eat well at that meal.

the past 2 days the top of my stomach has been aching. i dont know if its my actual stomach aching or the insicion spot. i will call my nurse tomorrow.

i get so hungry i eat every 2 hours and being that hungry i eat fast so maybe thats whats wrong im eating to fast but shoot i be so hungry it hurts.

NewGM - that undercooked rice could have been the problem. Rice expands as it is. If you ate undercooked rice, there was that much more expansion that could happen in your stomach.

I completely understand the hungry/eating fast dilema. Maybe sipping on a Protein Shake over 2-3 hours would help?

I KNOW we can all make this work - but it's certainly not going to always be easy, is it?

NG- there is no way we can get in 1200 cals at this point unless we eat the wrong foods. I tried baked chicken for the first time for dinner....I feel awful! Think I'll stick with canned chicken and fish. Must be too soon for heavy meats for me. First time I have experience this. I ate dinner at 7 and it still feels like I just ate. It's stuck somewhere :-(

I wasn't told 1200 cal/day but decided to try and do it anyways and maybe I would break my stall. There is no way I'm getting in no where near 1200. It seems impossible and I'm 5 weeks out.

Plus I had been eating 1200 calories before my surgery for a while so I know I won't lose weight at that amount anyways.

CHICKEN.....seems to be a problem for a lot of you. But we know that chicken, especially the white meat like chicken breast, is better for us generally. I have found a way to get chicken in...good thing cause I love it. The first way, is to poach it. I take whole chicken breasts and cover them in Water and boil until the chicken is done. Usually 45 min - 1 hour. Let me be clear, that once it reaches boiling, I cover and simmer. I use this chicken to make Soups, stews, chicken salad (another fave) with grapes and hard boiled eggs, minced celery & onion and mayo and a bit of chili sauce (my secret ingredient) with salt and pepper to taste. I usually put in slivered almonds, but I haven't done that since my surgery...just not to the almond stage yet. Little nervous about nuts (the edible kind).

Also, when I cook chicken in a skillet for dinner, I butterfly the breasts, use olive oil, cook on medium and cover while cooking and take it out the MOMENT there is no pink left. And keep it covered for a bit and then serve. Chicken is moist and tender.

And the biggest thing with both of those is to cut it into tiny bites. Seems to work so far.

Hello ladies!!

Talk to my Nut today to make sure im on track and just thought i share some info she gave to forward to me approved by my surgeon.

CALORIE EXPECTATIONS:

400 at 2 wks

500 at 3 wks

600 at 4-9 wks

800 at 10 wks

1000 at 12 wks

1100 in 6 months

1300 in 8 months

1500 in a 12 months +

*100 calories above or below these expectations*

Less than 30g of FAT per day

Less than 50g of CARBS per day

70g of Protein daily

Keep sugar intake extremely low

Not saying my NUT has the right answers but since it was a topic today......wanted to share.

WE CAN DO THIS!!!! :)

Here is another viewpoint: My PA told me yesterday at my one month appt that I can so totally live in 500 cal/per day. My fat intake should be no more than 20% of my total calories for the day and sugar should be no more than 4-5gm per serving. She wants carbs kept below 40-50 per day but she says this is really hard to do. I was cash pay so I only got one visit with a NUT and that was because I asked for it and paid for it. How many visits do y'all get when this whole experience is paid for by insurance? Just curious.

I'm supposed to go every month to the nut but it's $275 a visit so I don't go. I had insurance for my surgery but the nut they work with doesn't take it. I only went once for the requirements of my surgery.

My NUT is cash only as well so I go when I can fit her in my budget.

Thanks! I'll give this a try. Really don't want to omit chicken from my diet.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
