Sleeved 9/4 Im In Pain

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 9/4. I've been very nauseous ever since. I'm also in a lot of pain. They kept me in the hospital for an extra day. So I just got home today around 2. I'm on day 3. Any input on how the rest of the week usually goes would be great!!! When will it stop hurting?!

Each day gets alittle better. I found it was all in the way i turned. Make sure you keep your body straight, don't turn at your waist, if that makes sence. Also, support your tummy when you stand. Put a little more pressure on your belly than is comfortable so when you stand it doesn't feel like those muscles are stretching..

Rest and be patient... ; )

  1. I had alot of pain too. It took about 3 weeks for it to be bearable and about 6 weeks to be gone completely outside of overeating and pain from that. Hang in there. I thought I royally screwed up doing this surgery. Now 3 months later, I'm down 71 lbs and feeling alot better. It WILL get better. Give yourself time to rest and heal. It is a process. Its ok to pamper yourself till you do feel better.

I had mine the 4th as well. Just came home around noon. I had lots of bleeding from the incision they pulled the stomach thru. They couldn't get it to stop bleeding, put pressure bandages on it (OUCH!). I am just mostly sore now.

Where is your pain? You can lightly massage around your incisions and use a heating pad on your tummy to relax the muscles. At 3 days out you SHOULD have pain meds & anti-nausea pills. Please take them. Now is not the time to be a hero and suffer discomfort. Call your doc if you don't have any meds.

Day 3 was my WORST day. I was so uncomfortable & miserable. I got through the first week by sleeping, sipping and reading this forum. I gained a LOT of strength from all these wonderful people on this board.

Hug yourself!! You'll be better soon.

Day three was bad for me too, but I pushed through the pain and really worked on trying to walk around the house. I would take my pain medicine and walk for 10 minutes in the house and then nap because the meds made me tired. It really helped though. I took the meds every 4 hours and did not skip even if I did not feel any pain I was able to walk a lot and on day 4 I felt a million times better.

Keep your chin up. My life has changed so much in just two months and I will never regret this.

Feel better and get ready to really start living!!!

Hey Twin! Also sleeved on 9/4. I had a single incision at the belly button and a very small one at the top of my stomach. I had a lot of nausea in the hospital and was also kept an extra day because I couldn't keep anything down. I don't have a lot of pain outside of the incision sites. I've been getting walks in as often as I can. I'm trying to drink broth but I'm just not very hungry. I hug a pillow any time I move. I also use a hearing pad on my belly when I'm resting. I haven't passed gas yet, though I have good bowel sounds.

Girl, you will feel better soon!

Where is your pain? Have you been walking? Do you have your drain in still?

I was in a similar situation and kept an extra day. Also sleeved on Tuesday. I had a severe reaction to the anesthesia and my muscles constricted and became severely fatigued so I was unable to move at all while in the hospital (other than going to the bathroom which I required my husband to basically drag me there). I also experienced severe nausea and extreme pain in my tummy and specifically the largest incision where they removed my stomach. I have improved since I returned home yesterday, but am nowhere near where I thought I would be by now. I didn't expect miracles, but unlike many people who were up walking, etc. I was just able to walk for the first time today and it was very limited. My tummy is very swollen and tight and my incision pain is almost unbearble. Thankfully I am on pain meds and that is helping me a lot, but I am really hoping to be able to walk a few times tomorrow without feeling like I've been abused.

I hope you get better soon as well. Maybe the 4th was just a day for a few extra hurdles to jump through?!? Aside from the pain, I am tolerating pureed food and Water pretty well so there are some small victories! :) I am glad to see I'm not the only one wondering when the pain will end. Will be glad to feel better!

I'm feeling more like a human today! I have passed a decent amount of gas. My incisions have just been hurting like crazy, but are starting to feel better today. I decided to wear one of my compression shirts and that is helping a bit also. I was just so nauseous. And the meds for that don't work for me apparently. They had to alternate 3 different ones in the hospital. I build up a tolerance for things very quickly. Luckily my husband has been my rock through all of this! He is better to me than I could have ever have asked for. Thank you for all your help and support.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
