Hi threebeauties! Another 19th bandsister! I couldn't agree more, we do have to change and be patient with ourselves. A new normal is on the rise for us and it will be better than ever!:clap2:

Hello everyone! The messages from all of you are very helpful to me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate reading some of your thoughts and feelings - not to mention the words of encouragement. This really will be our last weight loss journey - right? I've lost weight sucessfully so many times and couldn't bear to do it again only to gain it back. I pray that this tool will help me make maintain a healthy weight.

I'm going to be banded on Tuesday, 10/24. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you that have been banded and also those that are to be.

Hi, I had my surgery on the 17th and it went very well. Stayed in the hospital until the next day. They would not let me go until I peed and that was giving me trouble but finally had success. I went back to work the next day until 2:00 and did not take any pain meds. I will say that the gas was the most uncomfortable and lasted several days. The program I was in is terrific with a lot of support. (Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA) I am still on liquids until the 26th when I can have some smooth foods then the week after soft foods and finally the next week regular stuff - just before Thanksgiving! I am postponing my first fill until the week after because of the week you have to go back to liquid, smooth and soft.

Hi everyone!

Macdeb59 - try some grated cheese in the Tomato Soup. It melts in your mouth so my nutritionist approved it for the liquids stage. It was sooo yummy!

Cootie - yes, my bruises from the heparain were horrible, and I still have remnants of them 3 weeks out. I was shocked how bad the bruises were. lol

Threebeauties - My doctor won't do a fill until 8 weeks out either. I was really worried how I would as when appetite came back after a week, I was absolutely starving all through my liquids stage. Within an hour of eating I would be hungry again. I was just so tired of being hungry all the time. Once I started mushies though, it became soooo much better. Now when I eat it stays with me for a while. I am eating three meals a day with two Snacks, and while I get hungry, it's not constant or unbearable. I've been tracking my food on fitday and I've been staying between 900 - 1200 calories a day. To me, this is a huge victory. There are times I want to eat, eat, eat (like now, about 45 min after I've eaten dinner, even though I'm still full) but I know it's just head hunger. So that's what I'm fighting now. It's not easy, but I'm making progress. I'm very encouraged that I will be able to make it until the 8 weeks without it being a huge struggle. So hang tough during the liquid stage. It does get better!

I will be banded on Thursday also. Surgery center of Richardson. I live in New Mexico. If anyone else has flown home the day after surgery, can they give me any hints to how it was? I will be going to a hotel the day of surg. then home the next day, Can you walk ok the day after surgery? I can just see myself in Dallas airport:sick Hope not! My flight is 1 1/2 hrs. to Albuguerque. Wish they did it closer to home! I read an article in todays paper that they dont do any kind of weight loss surgery in New Mexico. They send you to Arizona or Tex. Boy, is this state out of touch.

Nanette, were you offered the choice of coming here to El Paso? I am like 250 miles from you. I know my surgeon gets TONS of bandsters from ALB. Just curious as to why you chose Dallas. Oh, I was up and walking the night of my surgery (had it at 2, in recovery waiting for a room for 5 hours!!!)

I suck at pain I’m on pain killers still my pain level is very low I can’t even lay on my left side which is where the port is on. I wish you all the best, please keep us posted. good luck!!</O:p>:clap2:

so thats what that bruise is from. I forgot I got a shot the day of my surgery in my belly. But it didn't hurt. The place I got my surgery done at used a pain killer on everything. Even when they put the IV in, that was really nice. Everyone is doing so good.

Getnhealthy------Girl its your week!! I'm so excited for you. I know you'll do well and I'll be praying for you.

Thanks for all the thoughtful comments. I'm glad that I'm not "abnormal". I will try to start walking around the block tomorrow to speed the recovery process.

Much better today, but port site and incision closest to it still pretty sore. I wasn't as rumbly today, but I have gotten more so this evening. Luckily I haven't had any real gas pains like in the shoulder. I had a laparoscopy in 96 and the gas pain was terrible. Supposedly many surgeons have a way of removing a lot of the gas now.

Good luck to all having surgery this week. Keep us updated.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
