October 2006 Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

I feel kind of old.. I was banded on October 12th... It has been 5 days now.. and so far since my surgery date I have lost 10 lbs!!!!! These 5 days have been hard.. I thought I had the house stocked with stuff for my family (I was nesting) and I did not.. My husband wanted to go to the grocery store.. It was hard to see stuff that I used to eat that I could not.. I did fine.. got more broth and stock.. yogurt..and came home they had pizza and I had broth... yum.. I cooked dinner last night and cried..(I wanted to still do things as I did in the past) . It is not easy these first couple weeks..but I made it through.. my husband came in and finished cooking dinner and I made my Soup and had SF jello.. Any one else out there like me .. having a hard time.. ????

Bckeye01, i understand, the food looks great and i do want to take a bite, but i keep reminding myself that this liquid phase is not permanent. In a couple of weeks you will be able to take that bite and who knows you might not like pizza anymore, it might not settle with your stomach. Don't cry!! Change is hard, but we must be strong. The benefits out way the food.

how do you make the ticker tapes? I have gone to the website and created one..and have the url address but I can not get it in my signature.. it tells me invalid file or url...there are 3 addresses which one do I use.. and do I use the entire address??

bckeye

I understand, I was banded on the 12th, and i have no children except for my husband who has been great in bringing me Jello, but it whining about food for him. He is a so so cook, just not used to doing it all the time,

and at 150 lbs i have watched him eat the ENTIRE time i havebeen banded. When i say it smells good he immediatly runs out of the room to take the temptation which is funny bc i know i cant eat it so i have no want to but a week ago i would have "crushed it!"

THis is emtional, and personal. No one can understand YOUR journey with food. We all empathize bc we have similar but we ALL have different stuff going on. Hang in there. Be asssertive about your needs right now. And cry if it makes you feel better.

Good luck!

Does anyone recently banded have pain where the port is? My other incisions feel fine.. but just one..when I stand I have to hold my port site and I am fine.. the nurses told me that I be sensitive at the port site..I am off pain meds now.. just tylonal..if needed.... but I am happy to be here.. it has been a long jurney... I went for surgery April 24th..and during the surgery the dr pulled too hard on my stomach that my spleen tore and they had to remove my spleen and did not continue with the surgery... so I waited 6 mos..and just got banded last week...finally...

How funny,

I just asked the same question to the ABC bandsters....... when I bend over, to like brush my teeth or pick something up... the area where my port is hurts.... they said, it takes anywhere from a month to a month in a half for the soreness to go away, now they have to poke around to find it...... I also called my Dr. they said it's because it's still healing

Hope this helps

Joanne

I just wanted to say '' Gratz everyone on your new Bands!"

I cant wait to join everyone! Just a few more days for me. Just curious, what kind of pain meds did you get? In a pill form? and where you able to swallow it? I am getting banded in Mexico from Dr. Ortiz. Do you think i can bring medicine home with me? hehe Border Patrols and stuff. Just wondering. Ok, Thanks, and again *cheers* to everyone who was banded this month ..... my prayers are with you all.

Hi lynn, My puter is being dumb, so I have to post to you from here... hehe ok... Yays! I found me a band Buddy! Maybe I will see you there. I will be flying down to TJ on Wed 25th, sometime around 4 ish pm. I will be traveling with my mom. And staying at the Lucerna Hotel. I was told I could relax and rest for the day. Then on thursday I will get my pre-op and surgery done. then back to the hotel on Fri, and Sat. We will be checking out on Sunday and flying back home to Cali - near Sacramento - in the afternoon. I hope to get lots of pain meds! I was thinking of bringing the Doc a gift, a little bribe might go a long way! heha I hope everything goes well for you, and hope we bump into each other at least once! Yays! Gratz on your loss so far! Thats awesome, but cut it out cause your making me look bad! lol I had gotten my *auntie flow* and she brought on 3 lbs. but I only lost a little bit- like 4 pounds now. They better not reschedule me!!!! I paid too much for this! hehehe ~Raynie!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
