Worried About Chewable Vitamins

Recommended Posts

I know after you have gastric sleeve surgery you have to take Vitamins for the rest of your life. I'm fine with that, I take a daily Vitamin now, but I cannot stomach a chewable vitamin. Right now I take a gummie vitamin because chewable ones just make me gag from the taste.

Does anyone else have this problem. What do you do?

Some chewables are better than others. I found opurity (from Unjury), while good in the nutrients dept, tasted horrible. Centrum chewable for seniors is a little better tasting and better than nothing I guess. I have found a couple tricks. First, the Opurity has more nutrients, so that's my first choice but I hate the taste - so I found if I cut it in half, and had a half at lunch and half at dinner, it helps (not having an entire mouthful of "vitamin taste"). If you chew it at the back of your mouth for a quick swallow, that helps because of less/different taste buds there. Also, have a mouthful of food ready to go after you swallow your Vitamin to help get rid of the vitamin taste in your mouth quickly. The gummies taste awesome but they're missing so many nutrients. I would think they're better than nothing, but you don't want to rely exclusively on them. There's no Calcium or Iron or numerous other Vitamins and nutrients. You'll figure out what works for you. BTW, the Carnation Instant Breakfast, ready-made, no sugar added, is 150 calories and has 12g Protein and several vitamins & nutrients. It's helpful and the chocolate tastes exactly like chocolate milk to me - which is AWESOME because I'm lactose intolerant and can't have chocolate milk even though it tastes good. So Carnation Instant Breakfast is definitely a favorite of mine right now!!!

I was given samples of bariatric chewables and I only take a small bite throught the day till I finish it. Right now I am tasting the Celebrate and yesterday I had the Bariatric Advantage. I am doing okay with both of them. They adviced me to take either one for at least 6 months and then I could switch to a regular brand.

The best advice I can give you is not to stock up on anything just prior to surgery. I did this with Celebrate chewable Vitamins and ended up wasting almost $75. Prior to surgery they were tasty but after...the most horrible thing ever.

I am still struggling to find a Vitamin for use now. It is getting serious as I've not used any since just prior to surgery.

So, after surgery you can not use any regular Vitamins at all??? Do they have to be chewable or drinkable?

It really depends on what you are comfortable swallowing. I do drinkable & 1 that's a horse pill.

i hope gummies are alright. Even a liquid I might be able to handle, but the taste of Vitamin just makes me gag. I have a really sensitive gag reflex and it gets set off by a lot, and even chewing those Vitamins make me wanna throw up.

Is it bc pills are hard to swallow? What's the reasoning behind a chewable Vitamin?

My doctor said many of times people have a hard time getting down a regular vitamin because of how big they are so he suggests chewable's.

i like the Flinstones Childrens chewable- they have an adult dose on the package, I was worried gummies would do just that kinda get Gummy stuck- - - i will try them especially for the Calcium requirement!!

The only real negative about gummie Vitamins is that you are giving up part of your daily carb allowance to your Vitamin. Not really a problem early out, but by the time the first bottle was gone, I was looking to save that little bit of carb for my food.< /p>

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
