Burning Pain

Recommended Posts

Hi. I had surgery on 8/1/06 and my first fill was 1.4 cc on 9/14/06 (more than 6 weeks after surgery)

I have been havinf a lot of pain with solids and it has nothing to do with my band being too tight (I dont think). As soon as I swallow any solids food, no matter how well I chew, it gives me immediate hearburn. From feeling like hard stabbing pain to the burn that feels liek a fire. And its all from my throat to top of stomach. I feel this pain way before the food would have had time to reach my stomach so I know its not directly about the band rtestriction. I cannot eat any solids til late afternoon and only after Ive eaten liquids or mushies every three hours before hand.

Has anyone experienced this? Can you give me some advice or insight? I have not been able to speak with my surgeon yet.

Thank you soo much. Im so uncomfortable :-(

PS when I can finally eat, I do not feel much restriction at all. I'm definately not at my "sweet spot".

I'm not a health care professional, but it certainly does sound like some type of reflux - heartburn. You might try some OTC meds like Maalox or Tums and see if you get any relief at all. Make sure you put a call in to your doc and find out what it really is.

Let us know how you do

Terry:)

To me, it sounds like the "golfball." I get this feeling if I take too big of bites, don't chew enough, or eat too fast.

You didn't mention how much fill you have, what size band...these things would affect how I would assess this. (I am not a doctor or anything...just experience talking!)

Another thing to remember is that your sensations of fullness will not be felt in your stomach now, but above the band...where the pouch is, almost in your esophagus, which will translate to many of us as in the chest.

Try the search feature and enter the terms "first bite syndrome." A lot of bandsters have that, too.

Seems like reflux would occur after you eat, not on the first bite.

JUST MY EXPERIENCE talking but it sounds to me like you are a little tight..but that is just a guess.....you wont no longer feel full so much in your "tummy" but your full sensation will be above the band now...It really sounds like my golfball feeling or even a reflux from food not going through the band as it should..I am just giving my opinion but I would call my doc just to check it out...good luck and keep us posted...

thanks so much for your responses. I am definately going to peak with my surgeon ASAP (which will hopefully be Monday)

For now I will just drink my Protein Shake for Breakfast, something mushie for lunch and then a solid for dinner. This seems to work pretty good.

I have an inamed band. the smallest size. it was not filled at all during the surgery and I had a 1.4 cc fill (my first), over 6 wks post-surgery.

I will keep ya'll posted.

K

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
