Any New Uk Sleevers Out There?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Going good here, although the weather is a bit frosty today - had hailstones this afternoon!

I too think I'm going to find it difficult to connect he fact that I 'can' eat- ie put things in my mouth and swallow - but thats as far as it goes - it will stick... how do you all cope with this?

I have found so far that when I have had a yogurt (i'm only just two weeks out) thatI think I may have eaten it too fast because of this.. any help appreciated.

Also - what types of Protein shakes/drinks do you all have in the UK? I've just been taking slimfast as I can't seem to find anything else - and its enjoyable.

Congratulations on the weight loss, and only 3 weeks, i am really pleased everything is going so well for you.

Sounds like you will go from strength to strength, and the one day you will be slim is getting closer and closer.

I am still waiting for my blood test results, and then hopefully i can get treatment and then get a new date for my op.

I am finding the liver shrinking diet difficult because i havn't actually got a date to work to, but am doing my best.

I felt really positive and ready for my new start after being on the pre op diet last time and am hoping i can get back into that place again.

We have had such a lot to cope with, and turning to comfort eating has been difficult to avoid, but i havn't gone over the top, but because of this I am addressing the comfort eating issue ready for the op, because i don't want to do this when i am sleeved, but am hoping the eating right, and having the sleeve will help me to make better choices, and not turn to comfort eating when stressed, because realistically stress is still going to happen in life, the sleeve won't take that away lol.

Keep up the good work and look forward to hearing more about your weight loss and new slim life, x :)

Hi everyone. I'm Jo from Brighton. I was sleeved on the 12th Oct so I'm 10 days post op now and still on liquids. I think the worst of the headhunger is behind me now. I had a few days of craving everything I saw.

Can I ask... for those of you who've been sleeved a while, did you get hair loss? A lot of the Americans are saying they had Hair loss at 3 to 4 months which didn't come back til 8 or 9 months post op. I'm just curious. I can hear Ebay calling me to buy some groovy wigs! I was told that hair loss is a sign of general malnourishment but so many people seem to get it that I'm wondering if it's just one of those things to expect or if it's a dietary difference from country to country.

Re the hair loss... Before I started my wls journey... I had elbow length THICK hair. I got to about 17/18 weeks and my hair started to fall out, just a little but then it progressed, I could pull handfulls out. I'm now 18 months post op and my hair although shorter after chopping it is growing back.

good supplements are zinc and selenium!

Hi there. I have hair loss. I'm 4 months out. It's not like all your hair falls out. People don't notice. It's often to do with general anaesthetic. How are you getting on?

Ladies no-one explained this to me so I'm going to tell you. At the beginning 3-4 teaspoons of food seems like nothing and you may keep pushing the boundaries and feel pain or be sick. Try not to. Just go with it. I am 4 months out and can eat a lot more now. I just had 2 mini chicken fillets. 1/2 roasted carrot, 2 small bits of roasted sweet potato and a bit of onion and pepper. I couldn't manage this 1 month ago and was often sick. If I could go back I would embrace my swollen tummy, eat little and lose the weight! I wish someone had told me this before x

thank you very much... maintaining so far is easy, but i've reached a stable weight only about 3 months ago. I am a 4-5 times a week weigher... bad i know but it allows me to stay ontop of my weight. Still plenty of things I can't eat, but alot I can. I have good days when i can eat like a horse (fly), and other days I get 1 mouthful in and i'm stuffed!

I still to this day have HORRIFIC nausea, I vomit about 4-5 times a week mainly to stop pain or get rid of nausea ( worst feeling in the world for me). BUT.... I'm a size 12, healthier, happier and full of life :)

I think it's natural to check our weight when it has been a problem for so long. I always want to check mine so I can fix any gain quickly!

What things can't you eat? I avoid rice but that's about all.

Do you feel sick all the time or when you eat? I've done a lot of vomitting usually due to eating too fast or too much. I am pleased I don't ever feel sick though. I'd hate that. Have you tried acid stuff?

I dream of being a size 12. It must be amazing. I am nearly 5 stone down with another 7 to go!!

Did you have any stalls? I haven't yet but keep expecting one.

thankyou tealover - I read this post a few days ago and have had it in mind each day since. I'm now 26 days out, and am having to remind myself to eat more slowly - often I'm just that wee bit too late in remembering and I feel the pain in my chest and back.. each day is a new day though. x

Hi Selena. I'm glad you found it useful. I counted a lot at the beginning. Tiny forkful. 20 chews. Cutlery down. Count 30 seconds before the next one. It's just practice and gets easier as the swelling goes down. I rarely get chest pain now x

Hello everyone!

I'm Sarah, 36, from Sheffield. I'm having a sleeve gastrectomy with Mr Ackroyd at BMI Thornbury as soon as is humanly possible!

I'm very glad to be here :)

Hi, i live near Doncaster which isn't too far from you, i have been waiting 2 years for my op at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, and am hoping to have my op in feb, i have had delays due to health issues and once the latest one is sorted i am top of the list.

Are you having yours on the nhs?

I go to a brill support group on the first thursday of every month and you would be welcome to come along if you don't have one closer that you can go to.

We have people who have had all 3 wls and some who have not had their op on the nhs or in this country.

Do you have a date, or are you waiting on one.

Welcome to the group, the articles and wls success stories are very encouraging, as well as those who have come through complications.

I have found it difficult to make friends on here that communicate with me regularly, but still get loads of encouraging posts and support, hope u enjoy and be encoraged, look forward to hearing from you.

I am 55, disabled, happily married with 2 grown sons and 2 jack russell dogs that we treat like family, we are christians, but are not bible bashers or religeous, bye for now, Janet, x

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
