October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves

Recommended Posts

Had my surgery on 10/16. I came home last night. The worse thing for me so far is being so tired all the time. I'm trying to get all my liquids in but feel like I'm failing at that. My stomach keeps rumbling even if I'm not hungry. Is there something I can do to help with the rumbling?

I think that will be an ongoing thing for awhile. Mine hasn't stopped rumbling at all and I'm not hungry either. A fellow coworker of mine had her sleeve last December and said her tummy will still rumble from time to time without being hungry...though it is not constant anymore ;)

If you are still taking the narcotic painkiller they give you to take at home' date=' try using just Children's Tylenol instead. That narcotic will make you very tired and lazy. Some people also just have a hard time shaking the anesthesia for a few days. I didn't start having any energy at all until this afternoon. I haven't taken the lortab until just a few minutes ago to help me sleep tonight. Also, the more fluids and Protein you get in, the more energy you will have. Good luck. I know you can do it <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />[/quote']

If I switched to the children's liquid Tylenol woul it need to be diluted?

Hi Everyone' date='

I have been reading these forums or several weeks, so much helpful information!

My sleeve procedure is scheduled for October 18th, with Dr. Amit Trivedi.

I'm just plain SCARED.

Any advice on how to find some much needed courage? Most of my fears are regarding the procedure and anesthesia itself. I'm also worried about having regrets about having an "irreversible" procedure. I already regret the permanent tattoo I got on my 17th birthday (lol). Anyone who anyone who regretted being sleeved?

Thanks in advance

:)

Hi you have your op same day as me, how are you going ?

I cam home yesterday afternoon. Sleeved 10/17. I have a lot of rumbling too. part the rumbling is all the excess air in your belly. Walk, walk, walk they told me. Well, my new best friend has been my hot Water bottle. Way better than a heating pad, because you have some pressure as well. I laid down with it, and the gas just kept creeping out all night. I'm glad I decided to use ir over a heating pad. As for hydration, everyone is different, but sf popsicles have been my best friend. Edy's are the best, but Walmart sells some for $2 that are real good. Decafe cold tea with lemon has been great too. Remember your belly is healing and cold does help relieve inflammation. As far as sleepy, I believe the narcotics were my issue. Now I just take liquid tylenol. BIG DIFFERENCE! I hate feeling loopy and groggy. Well, I hoped I. helped a little. Good luck to you!

I'm at the end of day 4 and feeling 100% on each day before. The gas is the biggest pain/annoyance. But being less tired I am as others have said walking walking walking and sip sip sipping the Water. The gas is slowly coming out. On creamy liquids today more Protein has helped a lot with energy. Had a bit of a scary thing happen last night. Kept waking with terrible headache In hospital had O2 at night due to not breathing well (abdominal gas) anyways woke, killer headache and then started dry reaching felt so sick went on 10mins now thing it was my bowels shifting as had a BM the next morning. But was scary and hurt tears were streaming involuntary down my face, slept up in a couch once I stopped wrenching. Had a coma like sleep then BM and was fine had a few BM's sorry if this is so TMI for some but may interest others and I didn't understand what the hell was happening.

I was all set to have VSG. I had my endoscopy and they found Barrett's....cannot do a VSG if Barretts progresses to dysplasia to cancer. A bypass will help with the Barretts. I had no

other symptoms like heartburn or acid reflux.

So tomorrow is the day! The doctor just called me to see if I had any questions and give me a couple of instructions. He is so great. Pretty much ready. Bag is packed. Family is all set up for the week. I keep thinking I am missing something.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
