If this is something you've only experienced recently, most likely it is due from eating low carbs. Ketosis can cause foul breath... unfortunately. Sadly, there really isn't much you can do aside from scraping your tongue, constantly brushing your teeth or perhaps the listering breath strips.

Good news is it doesn't last forever. Mine usually lasts only a week or two when I put myself back in that state.

All the best!

Are you still in the liquid phase with all the Protein Shakes and such? This happened to me also and will subside when your diet gets a bit more normal. I kept gum and mints on hand. :)

Still on all liquids can't stay out of bathroom I'm miserable. The breath, going to bathroom all the time, can't sleep and just got out of hospital after a four day stay. :( I pray everyday I made the right decision.

Yes, as LilMissDiva stated, ketosis, and it gets worse post-op.

Also try a tongue scraper, then mouth wash and finally brush your teeth, the roof of your mouth and your tongue.

It lets up after a few months and your system starts to stabilize. BTW: It's due to caloric shortfall - the diet - and not the surgery per se.

Hang I there. I'm 4 days out. I almost have to meditate my self through every sip. I've founding really have to stretch myself up straight to help it all go down. I trying to look at it through the perspective that this will retrain my brain to eat consciously, which I never done. Try sugar free gum and a good mouth rinse. Keep walking, that will help you remember your reasoning in the first place. Also try to find a you tube string by one person. It helped me a lot to see the transition in people's bodies and attitudes. The decision is done, so don't look back, just do everything you can to enjoy what it will do for you. WE will all get through this.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
