The Stuff They Don't Tell You

Will someone define "slimies" please?

Slimies are when you take 1 bite too many. You overfill your tiny stomach and instead of throwing up, the saliva or slimies in your stomach just come up. If I overfill my stomach and bend over, it just comes up. 10 months out and had an episode today at lunch. Only took 5 bites of my lunch, one bite too many. But I ate Pasta and I notice it happens more if I eat pasta. And prior to my sleeve, I ate pasta all the time. My favorite food. Now, not so much because slimies is not worth it. I also get the sneezes and nose runs. Today at lunch, my daughter, who works with me, heard me sneezing and said, "Mom, are you sliming?" Ha Ha!

I drink coffee but a half Decaf and reg coffee mix. The caffeine can be a diuretic and this is why my nut told me to mix my coffee.

Good things is the never trust a fart, weird taste buds and smells get better over time. I personally struggle with peeing. I drink tons of Water and can be once a day. I usually make my self pee by coughing or sneezing because I can feel my bladder is full. I take Miralax for Constipation. My surgeon said to take a stool softner not a laxative but I paid 20 bucks for this bottle of miralax. LOL I take it once a week. I miss going everyday because I feel like I'm holding waste in my body. No lie I weighed myself one day after I went and had lost 3lbs. SMH

My taste buds have gotten a little better. I can tolerate crystal light again. All the flavors had tasted weird for a long time. I did have 3 of my favorite onion and garlic chips and they tasted like butt!! It's a good thing because I gave the bag away. I hadn't had them since I was pre-op. My girlie parts are different too. My cycle etc; I asked my gyno but she gave me some stupid answer about chemical imbalances in my body from weight loss but no real definitive answer.

My memory and vision has gotten bad since I've been post-op, no one belives me. :( They keep saying I'm old. It's frustrating. I had the memory of an elephant before. Now I can't even remember where I put my keys when I walked in the house. It's like a blank is in my mind. It's hard to explain.

I wish I had known early post op how hard dealing with the loss of my food would be. although im fine now' date=' it was hard the first couple of weeks. I even regretted the surgery at first. But now, 98 lbs lighter and 5 months later, it was all worth it.[/quote']

I'm glad I'm not the only one who regretted surgery I'm 3 weeks post op and I'm finding it so difficult everything smells so good and I just miss food they say some people eat to live I lived to eat. I hope it will all be worth it . Can't wait till the hiccups stop and I was never a burper and now I do.

YES! That is me. And a short time for me is like 10-20 minutes. I have a super faster track. Plus it doesn't help that I'm lactose intolerant and I have a gluten sensitivity. It's brutal. It doesn't matter where I am...if I don't have super control over what I eat...forget it. My stomach lets me know who is in charge. I am concerned about that for when I do get sleeved. And eating out...forget that too. If I say no butter and keep the olive oil to a minimum...nix that. I can ALWAYS tell when those are used. It's embarrassing. I too would LOVE to know if it gets better.

For what it is worth it has gotten better in the last month or two since I have been going high Protein low carb. So that makes me wander if it is the gluten deal?? I never knew anything about "gluten" really until the last couple years when I started seeing "gluten free" or gluten stuff on tv. It was to the point of imodium everyday. Since I switched up and basically eliminated all bread, Pasta, etc I seem to be about every 1.5 to 2 days. Never like that before. I notice that if I come off of the really low carb for a day that things speed up again for a day or so then I can start back on low carb and back to 1-2 days. Maybe TMI but I know I am not alone...

Pooooor vision!!!! I was sleeved in Dec '11, and in Jan '12, i went to get my new eyeglass prescription. As the months went by, I noticed my vision getting worse and I was squinting just to see thru my glasses. Unfortunately, my insurance only pays for new glasses every 2 years so Im stuck with a pair of worthless glasses. BTW....pre-surgery, I only needed glasses just for reading...now need to wear a lot of the time!

My memory is exactly the same - I never had the issue before surgery- now- all the time. Forgetting things- and all sorts of weird stuff!

When my mouth starts flooding with spit it’s a sign I am gonna puke!

My mouth is pretty dry on the whole and maybe that’s due to not being able to drink Water so I drink a lot of Decaf tea which means I am not really drinking enough who knows lol

Hopefully the Water thing will settle down soon but I am the opposite dry dry dryyyyy

I had a hard time drinking water without wanting to run to the toilet and barf it all back up. My nut suggested the Crystal Light which tasted like rotten eggs; My surgeon gave me a prescription for nausea.

I shopped around trying different bottled waters....then I found my niche! Distilled Water in the jug! I was able to tolerate it and keep it down! I have since discovered SmartWater, which is distilled water with electrolytes (costco carries case of 1 qt bottles for $10) or Wholefoods has their 365 brand Electrolye Enhanced Water ($1 a pint). Try Distilled Water....i was amazed when it worked for me!

Thanks Everyone' date=' this topic is really helpful. I had my surgery August 1, 2012 and I am starting to experience some of the things you all are talking about. My husband just told me the other day that since my surgery, my morning breath is really bad.

Also, is anyone experiencing the Saliva in the mouth constantly?[/quote']

I thought that was just me

Never trust a fart!! LMAO!!!!

I'm confused. Some of you say you're constipated, but then you say to never trust a fart which makes me think you have the opposite problem. So basically there is just bowel problems in general... great... looking forward to all of these side effects. Blah but I'm guessing it's all worth it right?

What about your sense of smell? After getting home I had to unplug my scentsy warmers. 22 days out and I still can't stomach strong smells!

I went thru 3 deodorants before I could even stand to smell something so close to my nose!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
