How many days of liquid diet did you have to do? two weeks

How much weight did you lose during it? 13 pounds

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? I was in the hospital for a day and a half

Did you have any complications? No complications at all.

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed, etc) My doctor allows soft solids at about 5 weeks out.

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? I woke up with tremendous energy. I haven't lost that yet, so I'm still not back to "normal" (lethargic and tired) at almost a year out! :)

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips: I wasn't expecting to have so much energy. I wasn't expecting the mental journey I've taken...and am still taking. I wasn't expecting the speed of my weight loss, or that I'd feel like such a different person so quickly.

How many days of liquid diet did you have to do? 14 to start with, then surgery was delayed so I had 7 more

How much weight did you lose during it? 15 pounds--but the last week I cheated--bad--like there was a baconator involved

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? Surgery on Monday afternoon--released Wednesday evening

Did you have any complications? Yes--first surgery was canceled because my heart stopped on the table...second surgery was made more difficult by the constant struggle to keep my heart rate up where it needed to be (this was a reaction to the pressure of the gas in my abdomen--rare but happens) and I had a problem with my drain irritating a nerve and causing a lot of pain

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed, etc) Not yet--just 2 weeks out

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? I feel about 80% now.

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips: Remember this is a MAJOR surgery. You will need help with your child your first week home. Also--the most useful thing I took to the hospital with me was Biotin spray--mouth moisturizer......get some....it helps so much

How many days of liquid diet did you have to do?

2 weeks

How much weight did you lose during it? 12lbs

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? 2 nights but could have gone home after 1

Did you have any complications? nothing! great experience from the very beginning

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed' date=' etc) almost 2 weeks before I tried eggs.. around 3 weeks I started to try all different foods.. no issues!

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? honestly.. I was out and about the day I got out of the hospital.. but I'd say a good two weeks to where I didn't feel like I had to use caution around my incisions

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips:

honestly keep a positive attitude and you'll be fine. I didn't have any issues and I am feeling amazing. I am 12 weeks post op and down 43.5lbs and -33.5in and now wear a size 16 jeans from a 22/24 lane Bryant! best decision I've even made. I was on a 15lb restriction for the first two weeks and after my two week check up he put me at a 25lb restriction.

How many days of liquid diet did you have to do? Pre-op, none.

How much weight did you lose during it? Lost 43 lbs on a solid food based pre op diet

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? 2 days

Did you have any complications? Surgeon found a mass on my stomach near the pylorus which turned out to be a pancreatic heterotopia- tissue from the pancreas growing where it's not supposed to be. First night i couldn't drink anything and had a leak test the next day- usually patients in my program start liquids a few hours after waking up and go home the day after surgery. Also developed gout in my elbow 2 weeks post op.

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed, etc) 4 weeks until we eat soft food.

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? At 7 weeks out, my tummy feels great, but sit ups are a challenge. I'm still recovering from the gout and my arm still isn't back to normal. I have good days and bad days.

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips: I guess I lost a lot of fat in my head, which caused the middle ear tubes to open up. This lets the Fluid that's supposed to be there drain out and creates a fishbowl or bucket-on-the-head effect when I speak or breathe. Best fix I have for it is to get my head and heart level ASAP by laying down or touching my toes.

**Did you all have a pre-liquid diet diet?

**if so, did you follow it really well?

I have struggled off and on with my diet and am starting my liquid diet soon (mine will be ten days)... Have lost 13 lbs since April though so that isn't too bad

How many days of liquid diet did you have to do? No pre-op liquid diet required except 1 day of Clear Liquids the day before surgery. Nothing by mouth the morning before surgery.

How much weight did you lose during it? 4 pounds

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? 1 night, left the next afternoon

Did you have any complications? None so far (Knock on wood)

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed, etc) At two weeks out I was allowed to start soft foods and I will be on those for the next 3 months.

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? Most days I'm feeling about 80% (I'm 2.5 weeks out). Here and there I have a day where I feel beat.

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips: Gas-X strips have been a lifesaver. Heating pads and walking also help break up the gas you have post-op. I guess I also didn't expect with having no hunger it kinda makes it a chore to eat. I hate eating every 2 hours and I have to set an alarm to make myself. I wish I'd gotten myself into a better schedule of that pre-surgery so it was a habit. I am a little worried when I go back to school that I will have trouble making myself fit in Snacks that I need to get through the day.

How many days of liquid diet did you have to do? 2 weeks

How much weight did you lose during it? 10 pounds

How many days (if any) did you have to stay at the hospital? 2 days

Did you have any complications? No

How long after surgery did you try to eat normal food? (non-puréed, etc) I can have solid food at 8 weeks.

How soon after surgery did you feel mostly or fully back to normal? This question is vague. I took two weeks off from work, which was enough. If you're asking when I will feel exactly like I did before the surgery, I can't answer that because I'm only about 5 weeks out.

Please share any extra comments about things you weren't expecting or tips: Follow the diet plan your nutritionist and surgeon gave you. I'll say it again: FOLLOW THE DIET PLAN YOUR NUTRITIONIST AND SURGEON GAVE YOU. And no cheating. If you can't follow the plan then you're probably not psychologically ready for this surgery. Just my opinion.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
