I have the BEST hair of my life now after surgery. The first 6 or so months I probably lost 25% of my hair and I was worried. Then I stopped losing it. Then I started growing lots of tiny new hairs. Now my hair is fuller and thicker than it has ever been. I have great hair now, much better than before the surgery.

hi guys,

I was very diligent and cautious about getting all my Vitamins and protein in but I still had some loss.

It doesn't prevent it altogether but I suspect that my Hair loss would have been a lot worse had I not been careful with my protein/vitamin intake.

I got all my protein gms. in, took Vitamins four times daily, used special shampoos, took Biotin, etc. I did it all. I lost about 50% of my hair. But no worries, it really does grow back.

I'm 6 months out and have been losing alot of hair. But my hair was thinning to begin with.It looks like maybe it's slowing down and I see little baby hairs starting to pop back up.So maybe I'm on the upward swing now!! I would LOVE to have thicker, prettier hair than before like some of you talk about that would be great!! But I'm ok because all the thick pretty hair in the world didn't cover my fat body!! lol :lol:Take care everyone!!

For a long time I thought I was home free. I didn't start losing hair until I was 7 months out. I have lost a lot but do expect it to grow back once I hit my goal and stabilize. I do take lots of Vitamins and get plenty of Protein but........

Well.... it DIDNT happen to me and I eat a more carb based diet. I dont count protein, I dont do protein first and I probably eat 50 grams a day or so.

I think its more a mix of generalised reduction in nutrition (as opposed to malnutrition, i think your body recovers and readjusts) and hormonal disturbance. I dont think protein has very much to do with Hair loss in most cases - it could just as easily be zinc or Iron for example.

I have had 2 other surgeries since I was banded december 19th 2008. After my hysterectomy on may 11th I noticed that I had around 30 hairs coming out a day. I just upped my Protein and we will see if that will help. I voted none of those options fit for me. Statistics say a person loses and average of 40-100 hairs per day so perhaps this is just normal. But I honestly think its because of the changes that my body has been going thru since my abdominal hysterectomy. My doc feels the same way.

I had a TAH too, in 2005 and lost a lot of weight more than 40lbs in less than six weeks. I was off work for six weeks and wasn't allowed to lift anything and forget exercise. I was lucky to get 700 calories a day and I didn't sleep much at all. I didn't lose any hair. I am only four days post banding, so I am still working on getting enough fluids. I hope that I will have the same luck this time.

I'm only about 3 years late to the thread, but 1000 micrograms is equal to 1 milligram. Nursing student here

I've noticed NO Hair loss at all. If anything, it's come in MORE. It must be the increased Protein and Vitamin intake.

I experienced a thinning post-op that had me concerned because everybody told me to get my Protein and that wouldn't happened. What I found out later was that it happens quite often, and my surgeon related it to hormonal changes of losing weight.

The thinning stopped recently, after just a couple of months, and it seems my hair is getting back to its normal, thick, annoying status...but I won't complain this time; I'm just happy to not be tangled in loose hair when I put in my conditioner.

I began losing my hair at 4 months post-op. It finally stopped around 8 months and is finally growing back. I was beginning to worry because I have lost about 50% of my hair. Lucky for me, I had a lot of hair to start with.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
