New Here From Oklahoma!

Hey all! I just had my surgery on Tuesday and I feel like I could die. I'm jealous of everyone that says the feel great. I am 35/F preop weight was 244.5 at my last dr visit. I don't remember what it was the morning of surgery because I was already sick before then, my husband drove me to the hospital that morning and I laid the seat back with my eyes covered the whole way there. :-(

Anyway, so here I am only 4 days post op and I feel no energy, tired, and how in the hell am I gonna make it the rest of the 2 weeks, or 10 days. I'm feeling very discouraged at this point. I'm barely getting in my liquids, in fact getting nowhere close to what they want me to be at and these Protein Drinks and crap my husband bout from them taste like spit! It's already 1/2 after four pm and I've maybe had a little over 20 oz.

I just want the 10 days to pass ASAP so I can start adding in foods again. I'm hungry. Can we have milk products? I wanna make some sort of smoothie! lol

At 4 days post op, my program had us on full liquids. You might try making some cream Soups, cream of chicken or mushroom, using milk instead of Water as the base. Make sure you strain the solids out and drink only the cream. We could also eat sugar free pudding and yogurt, as long as we didn't eat the solid fruits.

Weight wise in Edmond.

Awesome! I'm in the midst of pre-op with Dr. Broussard. Hoping for September surgery.

Dr. Broussard is my Dr.! I work for Mercy Hospital so I only had to see them for 90 days before surgery though it took longer! My first visit to see the Dr was March 24 I believe! I just had my surgery Tuesday. I am miserable right now do don't listen to me! ;-)

Yeah, but it's not too bad. I'm self-pay so I don't have as many requirements. Had my first consult about 3 wks ago, dietician/exercise/psych last week. I see the Dr again on the 27th and I'm hoping to get my date then. My biggest obstacle is that he's making me lose 10% of my weight: 36 lbs! I'm down 11 so here's hoping.

Hi Jessica. Hang in there. I reckon day 4 was the worst day for me. Can I suggest that you don't worry about the Protein for now. Staying hydrated is far more important in week 1 than protein is. I had trouble getting liquid in to, so I set my alarm/stop watch to go off every 15mins then I drank 30ml of Water. This method worked absolute wonders and each day I just increased the amt. However by day 6/7 I was drinking fine and didn't need the alarm.

Once you can handle the Water then move to protein. I'm day 11 post op and returning to work tomorrow.

Hope you find some comfort soon. Each day truly does get easier.

My liquid diet included smoothies, however they must be strained and have no lumps or seeds etc. Mind you milk drinks don't go down to easy.

Hi! Just thought I'd say hello! I'm in Oklahoma as well! (I went to MX though.) I had my surgery 9/27. I am still having a difficult time with liquid intake. Water makes me feel sick. Which really is sad! I love water! Going to try to set a timer tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. :P

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
