Houston Area Surgeon

Recommended Posts

I used Dr. Audencio Alanis. His main office is in League City but he also has an office out on Ric***nd near Dairy Ashford...much closer to you. He and his staff were great. His wife is his head nurse. His staff did ALL the insurance legwork for me. They made it very easy. He was great and very forthcoming and patient with me.

Looking for opinions on Houston area surgeons. My daughter lives in Katy.

Dr Terry Scarborough at TLC Surgery in the med center did mine. I have had zero complications and 4 1/2 months post op and have lost a little over 65 lbs, with 40 to go. Dr Yu is his practice partner and I have heard very good things about him too. They've been on the local news about their successful procedures. I think this link is on their website. Good luck!

My surgeon is Dr. Phillip Leggett. He's up North going towards Spring. He's been in practice many years and his office is really easy to work with. His daughter is the bariatric coordinator. I just got my approval from the insurance company today, so I've yet to set a date. He did surgery on my mom though, non-bariatric.

I used Dr. Brian Mirza on Westheimer. He is great and is very concerned about your progress. He even gives you his personal cell phone number in case of emergencies. I had an emergency and I left a message and within the hour he was calling me back(his daughter was playing with his phone) and he kept up with my progress in the ER and all but demanded I see him the next day so he could "verify" that I was o.k. You got to love him...LOL!

I totally agree with Dr. Mirza being a top surgeon. I chose him and I'm 4 weeks out. He's awesome and he's right off Westheimer between Fountainview and Chimney Rock.

And yes, he does provide his personal cell phone number as well as his coordinator Erica. Thank heavens I did not need to use it....they called me several times post op to check on me too.

As of today I can only sing his praises.

My Doctor was Dr. Matthew St. Laurent. He was great and very confident in what he does.

I loved his confidence, I did not have any post op issues. he is located off of 290.

I went with the Methodist Bariatric program. They have locations/doctors in several parts of town. I selected Dr. Vadim Sherman in the medical center and he is an excellent surgeon and has a top notch group working for him.

Nope...I live up near Cleveland. I was living in Pasadena when I started my whole process....right across the street from Bayshore Hospital. They are a Bariatric Center of Excellence, which my insurance requires I use, so I started looking at surgeons who operated out of that hospital. I came across Dr. Alanis and have been extremely happy.

It would have been nice to just drive across the street when I got out of the hospital...that was my original plan. Instead, we had to drive an hour to Cleveland. I was so ready to go home, the nurse offered me a pain pill but then said I'd have to delay my departure for 2 hours just to make sure the pain pill didn't upset me. I told her to keep the pain pill, I wanted to go home.

I used Dr. Todd Worley he works out of Methodist Willowbrook, and I can't recommend him enough. He is the definition of a perfect doctor. He has been there 100% of the way however I needed him. He and his staff have been just fantastic.

I used Dr. Clifton Thomas. He has a satellite office in Nacogdoches (I'm in East Texas). I believe he has an office in Houston. He performed my sleeve at First Street Hospital on Bissonett. I can't say enough wonderful things about him. His technique is amazing. I have 5 small scars (the largest is about an inch, where they removed the stomach). I have had minimal bruising. His office staff, the clinic he used for the EGD, the hospital he performs his surgery at where nothing but amazing, compassionate, and extremely supportive. My mother was so blown away with him that she wants to use him for her surgery as well. =) I've also met staff at all of those locations who had the procedure performed by him also.

Just FYI - He's also a GERD specialist. I had a major hiatal hernia and he repaired it while he was in there. I was a cash patient. He did it for free, will bill the insurance company, IF they pay for the hiatal hernia repair, it's gravy for him. I don't owe any copays or anything. I REALLY hope they pay him for it because I have been GERD free since I woke up in recovery.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
