I'm getting the band in a few weeks. I want to get back to exercising as soon as possible. What worked and what didn't during your first month after surgery?

Betsyjane,

I started off biking 6.5 miles the day after my return home from Mexico, about 6 days post op.

Home Workouts

Hit the pavement or use a home treadmill

Brisk walking

Biking - moderate to racing

Jogging - 3.5mph - 5.0mph

Running - 5.0mph - 6.0mph

Abdominal Crunches - 100 - 400 per day, 5 days per week

Weight Training - Upper Body, Lower body or work on muscle groups (use store bought dumbells 10 - 20lbs or use home equipment, i.e., bowflex.

Gym Workouts

Gym Equipment to hit for cardio

Elliptical

Arc Trainer

Treadmill

Stationary Bike/Recumbant Bike

Stair Climber

Circuit Machines such as:

Shoulder Press

Bicep Curl

Tricep Curl

Back Row

Rear Deltoid Fly

Chest Press

Chest Fly

Lateral Row

Back/High Row

Leg Press

Leg Curl

Hemstring Curl/Leg Extension

Abductor

Adductor

*There are numerous other machines that are new that work the same muscles*

Abdominal Crunch Machine - Ab roller (you lay down and pull the arms up and you will be in a crunch position, very hard)

Abdominal Oblique Machine (works the sides of your waist, abs

Ab Cruncher - (You stand and put your arms on the pads and let your legs dangle and you pull your legs into your chest)

Free weights

All dumbells, bars, weight plates, weight plates seating equipment, squat machine, shoulder and back machines for the free weights...these are superb. I feel these provide the best results. You will need formal training from a personal trainer to begin to use these pieces of equipment properly.

Telly: What is Lipo6? It looks like you tried hydroxcut. Did you try any other products? Do you think it makes a lot of difference? Is this a product you order over the internet?

the first month is more critical for healing than losing, I did the liquids and Protein Shakes, it was rough but I did lose somehow. some report gaining and I think that is ok as long as you heal good then start the real work.

I'm extremely happy I got the band! Even if I only lostt 50lbs I'd still be very happy.

Karey I did use hydroxycut but I used the caffeine free and I don't think it worked for me but then again, I did lose pretty fast so maybe it did work. I just don't know.

Telly -

I've been non-sexually crushing you for months! I saw your first "shy girl" pics and then watched as you blossomed into the powerhouse diva that you have become! YOU GO GIRL! I only hope my post-band success is as amped as yours. :)

I am on a 2- month holding pattern because of low Iron. I get my blood retested on Monday (30 Oct.) and they BETTER be ready to schedule my surgery!

I've printed the initial post and am ready to work my ass off!

Thanks, girl and keep it up. You are beautiful inside and out.

Nathalie

You don't need to wait for your surgery to start working your ass off...just a thought...and I agree that Telly is inspiring.

the only thing I can add to Telly-Vision is to do the final exercise at least 3 hours before bedtime or for some people (me) it will be harder to get to sleep.< /p>

Telly,

I am hoping to be banded in January, I'm just starting the process (going to a seminar Saturday). I have a few questions for you. I am pretty faithful about working out, I've done several body for life challenges ( a gruelling 12 weeks workout routine) But just cannot lose the weight, I've toned up, but still carrying a lot of weight and my eating hasn't been so clean, so I'm hoping the band will help me in that area.

My question is according to the "band rule" you only eat three small meals a day, but I'm a believer in eating 5 0r 6 small meals to speed up you matabolism. So if you eat more than 3 meals, do you spread the amount you would eat in three meals to 5 meals? Or do you just eat more? From what I am reading, you only eat about 1/2 to 1 cup of food per meal, so would you spread the 3 cups of food out for 5 meals, or would you eat 5 cups of food?

I plan on continuing my exercises after the band, I get up every morning at 5 am and do cardio and weights 3 x per week. I am taking a break right now, and it is killing me. I'm waiting to see if I can get approved from my insurance so I really don't want to lose weight until the docs offices weighs me - I am at 235 lbs and 5"6" so I'm just right at that cut off point. Once approved, I will jump back into the exercise routine.

Haha omG! You remember that first picture set? I was too shy to show my whole body. Thank you for your compliment.

Are you doing this challenge? Have you started yet? If so, how are you doing?

Sunshine, good questions there.

If you are working out then you will naturally eat more. You are burning alot of calories and hence you will need to replenish. Yes, your doctor recommends 3 meals per day, up to 3oz per meal. However if you work out 2 hours per day, once in the morning and once at night, you will be burning burning burning all day. I ate 1-3oz per meal, up to 6 per day, that's sticking good food in your mouth every few hours, i.e., Protein shake, Protein Bar, fruit, salad, yogurts.

Eating 6 meals per day is definately not following your doctors guided 3 meals per day. But they say that under the assumption that you aren't going to be extremely active. If you are active such as the 2 hour workouts per day then you adjust your eating. Adjustable Gastric Band - Adjustments (fills), adjustments of active lifestyle? Adjust your eating too.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
