Any Charlotte Nc Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I just had my sleeve nov 5 w/ dr. Header. LOVED him! Frustrated w/ purée phase though' date=' I think I may be eating too fast. Still get nauseous whenever I eat.[/quote']

Yay!! Congrats to you! So sorry about the nausea. I am still struggling with eating too fast, too. We'll get the hang of this eventually. :-)

My surgeon is Dr. Bauman at Carolina Weight Loss Surgery here in Concord. I'll be having my surgery at Carolinas Medical Center Northeast.

We have the same doc!

I got my approval today! YIPEE ~ so happy! Looks like surgery the first of the year for me. Now the task of figuring out where the $4000 up front out of pocket's going to come from. Might just have to wait till tax time. :-( But, at least I know I'm approved and almost there!

Hi, I am from the Charlotte area. I am over half way through my 6 month physician supervised diet program through Carolina's Weight Management. Nervous about the approval process for the sleeve through Cigna. My surgeon will be Dr. Gersin. Anyone else gone through CWM? What was your experience like?

Dr. Gersin will be doing my surgery on March 25th. So far I can tell he is a really serious person, not a great sense of humor, but seems to be a good doctor, I have heard good things about him though...

I'm with CWM...but not really having good success with getting them to submit the proper docs for insurance approval. I was so excited when they submitted my info over a month ago. Now it seems as though the wind has been knocked out of my sails!! I've called them numerous times and they keep telling me not to worry and that I don't need to do anything additional....but then I get a call from my insurance company advising me that they are not receiving requested info from them. Just getting so discouraged. Could someone share their experience?

I also had the same type of experience with CWM. My insurance company denied me twice. The informed me that the first time my paperwork was submitted she only sent 4 pages leaving out the psych evail., nutrition, and my endoscopy results that stated my esophagus was inflammed caused by the GERD and I was put on medication. The second time the insurance company told me that she sent the same 4 pages as before and then two days later sent the results form all the specialist and the info that my family dr. had changed my blood-pressure meds to something stronger(not the notes from my primary, just the fact that it had been done); I was denied again. When talking to my insurance company they said that everything should have been sent at one time and that they can see where it says that I am on blood-pressure medication but they need to see proof from the DRs. notes also its needs to be sent at one time. And now because I have already had paperwork sent in twice I have to appeal on my own or give CWM authorization to do it on my behalf; and I don't know if I should just do it myself to insure that everything gets sent in all at once or should I let them do i for me and just oversee the as much as possible to make sure everything is being sent together and that everything that is needed is being sent. What should I do?????? Any suggestions????

Maybe I just need to be patient and wait it out a bit more. It is so very frustrating though.

Yes, he does appear to be very serious. He seems to be very competent, though. How long after the approval process did it take for you to get a surgery date?

Really? This is the kind of thing that worries me. They should know what they are doing and submit the proper documents the first time. I have an appt. today and have asked to speak to the insurance coordinator. I want to make sure everyone has their ducks in a row. I was also told that I had to do a 6 month physician monitored weight loss program for Cigna to approve the surgery, but 4 months in, after some research and calling Cigna to confirm, they apparently only require a 3 month program as of May 2012. I plan to speak with them about this as well today.

And I don't know that It's so much the insurance coordinator as it is the doctor just not having his documents prepared. Whatever the case may be its frustrating. I think the most important thing though is to make sure you stay on top of things. Since I wrote the first post I've already talked to cwm and BCBS several times. Before I was just kind of leaving things in their hands and letting the chips fall. It sounds like you are already on top of things so you will be fine. Everyone that I've come in contact with at the office is super nice and supportive. Good luck with everything.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
