Post Op Diet Stages

Recommended Posts

I'm noticing some differences in post op diet stages. I had my surgery on the 18th. I was on Water only post op day 1, clear fluids post op day 2, started Protein Shakes, cream Soup (tomato only), pudding and yogurt on post op day 3.. I'm not having any problem meeting my Protein or fluid goals. I'm on this until my MD apt on 8/2. After that I can add solid protein - chicken, turkey, fish, eggs, low fat cheese. No fruits, grains or vegetables - even if finely chopped or pureed. I'll be on this stage until I'm cleared to start a regular diet, hopefully by the end of August. Does anyone else have this restrictive a diet plan?

All surgeons are different.

I got my first taste of Water the day after surgery. I was on clears almost a week then 5 weeks of Full liquids. Tomato Soup was NOT allowed at all because of the acidity and the carb count.

I then went to pureed food. This was very very hard on me. Everything was rough on me. If I didn't puree it well I was in extreme pain.

Soft foods, I stayed on pureed during that and though I'm suppose to be on regular food, I still stay more to the soft.

I haven't had bread, I keep my carbs between 20-40. Since I'm off liquids and quit having Soup and I quit the sugar-free puddings etc. my carb count has dropped a bit and I'm about 20-25 grams of Protein a day. It definitely stopped my stall.

Best of luck to you and I hope you find each new phase easy. I still am only capable of getting in 1/4 cup - 1/3 cup of food in at a time and I'm heading towards 2 months out on August 4th.

I was sleeved on the 13th and I was on Clear Liquids for a week. Now I am on full liquids for two weeks. Next, is pureed foods for four weeks. Then, soft solids for four weeks and finally, solids.

I won't eat solids until the end of September, I think. I don't know how I am going to make it because I am struggling with full liquids.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
