Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've made the decision I want the surgery and my 1st appt. with the surgeon isn't until 8-9. I do want to get this under control though. I would like to lose 5-10 pounds before my appt. with my family doc on 8-6 and then my surgeon on 8-9.

I think what I really want to do is just to not "diet" but really get my exercise consistent and just eat normal - no binging!! :)

I too try to eat everything in Sight, but i have a different reason. I am at the low end of the BMI with comorbidity at 36. I have hypertension, and arthritis. I have to stay above 35 bmi to get the final approval. I had my upper GI endoscopy last week and found to have gastritis and H Pylori. I was put on powerful antibiotics and prevacid and now all I taste is metal. So although I am currently on vacation in Cape Cod, I am not eating much and swimming all day. I think I will probably have my "food funerals" ( love that term) when i get over this thing. I have 2 more nut visits to go the 14 day preop to shrink my liver.

Also, I don't know anyone elses story - but I was NEVER a binge eater until about 2004 when I first went on Meridia and lost 52 pounds. It seemed like after that - if I would cheat, say with a small pizza, I would eat the whole thing in one sitting. I never used to do that even at my heaviest weight. But since I really started trying to lose weight it is something I have to watch out for.

Hopefully the VSG will help with that since I don't like pain, I won't want to stretch out my sleeve, and I'll have a much smaller stomach.

My surgery is scheduled for July 30 and I'm supposed to be on the pre-op diet. I've been bad, I admit. I want to enjoy all the foods I know I won't be interested in after the surgery. I do drink a Protein Shake for lunch, though. I have to feel like I'm doing something.

Just remember, the pre-op diet is not so much to lose weight as it is to shrink your liver. I went on a liquid diet with a doc about 5 years ago for 6 weeks! It can be done!

(Although I gained all the weight back, and then some, that wont be the case with the sleeve)

I do find that I have the "last meal" situation. I want to start the POSTOP diet PREOP and start getting into good habits. Even PREOP I am much more conscious about what and how much I eat.

You're right. I'm going to be very good this last week before surgery. It's time to end my love affair with food!

I have been doing the same thing after I found I wouldn't be able to have my surgery until the middle of October just because of things going on. I agree with mjs6206. My doctor hasn't gotten on to me like mjs6206, but I could tell she was not as happy with me as my other visits. I am also having problem about exercising. When I do exercise, I'm not consistent.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
