Wife Is Getting Sleeve, I Need Help

Recommended Posts

My wife and I have been getting her pre-approved by insurance for the past year. She is going to have her surgery in September. So we were thinking that we should start getting used to eating the types of foods that we have to eat once the liquid and soft diets are done, so it won't be such a drastic change. I need to find as many normal recipes as possible. and any tips on making the liquid and soft diets more enjoyable/acceptable would be awesome. Thanks all.

I will message you...

but also, just remember - low carb, low sugar...and since you are sharing, consider looking through the books "eat this, not that".

Atkins cookbooks are good, too.

I thought Atkins was too high fat - since he doesn't limit fat. Don't get me wrong - Atkins is the only diet that ever really worked for me so if this is true I would be much happier.

Fat isnt the problem - carbohydrates are :) Atkins is excellent - Primal is even better.

I would suggest finding a few simple recipes that you both like that are Protein based with veggies on the side - she will be on liquids for a while after surgery and it takes a bit before she can eat again and when she does it will be like 1/3 of a scrambled egg :) my husband and I keep it pretty simple, do a lot of grilled meats, aged cheeses, and though it slows weight loss fruits - it is hard to resist the summer fruit in season for me so I will have a piece every few days.

There are some fine recipes shared in the forum here and here are some links to very popular recipe sites that folks here frequent.

This gal is a recipe blogger who tailors recipes to Weight Watchers - lots of good stuff, especially her wonton muffins.

Primal site - primal/paleo are very similar with Paleo eliminating dairy, which can be rough for new surgery patients because it is a great source of Protein and nutrients. In a nutshell, eating this way" meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds.I have a big group of freidns who are firefighters, and this is how they eat. This will be farther down the road post surgery, but there are folks here who enjoy eating this way (myself included) and it falls right in line with post surgical recommendatons. Excellent recipe section.

Best of luck - spend some time with this board, the amount of valuable information as well as the kindness and generosity of its members is staggering :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
